Game Always Crashing (Skyrim with Mods)

Hey everyone,

I've been having an issue with Skyrim lately. I use mods, but not a crazy amount of them. I have used LOOT to sort my plugin list, and I have the Unofficial Patches, but my game has recently started crashing to the point where I can't play. Crashes happen around one minute into playing. I have modded Skyrim many times before and haven't had much problems with it. I just can't seem to figure it out and would appreciate any help or tips on stabilizing my game. Thanks a lot!

Loot is a start, a good start, but not the end. You also need TES5 edit, and learn how to "clean" mods that need it (you tube, nexus, forum). CTD's have a gazillion causes, as an amateur with hundreds under her belt can attest to. Every setup is different. For example could some of your weather mods conflict in some not so apparent manner?

I had a recent case where I repeatedly crashed while entering a certain area, after installing a clothing mod, After exploring through new game with/without mods, console versus go pick up the book, chopping out some old saves (save bloat?), it stopped happening, so I don't quite know how it was fixed. But it led me to save game scalpel, which has saved my scantily clad frame more than once, and led me to pay even more attention to scripts and texture files, which to me is like learning Greek or Hebrew.

To end the rambling, I would just say welcome to a great adventure. Be careful adding, pay attention to folks posts on the mod page who have installed a mod, study CTD and crashes and the tools used to combat them like you study the game itself, and learn to embrace the pain along the way.

I don't know how to clean mods with TESEdit, i don't use bashed patch either, but after reading a lot and using common sense, i have a very stable list of 130 mods.

A good starting point is the STEP guide:

http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.9.2

I can already tell you though some things. The "Unofficial Skyrim patches" are now obsolete and replaced by the USLEEP (unoficial legendary patch). Mind you, that mods that relied on the old patches, must be updated to USLEEP compatible versions to work.

The Dance of Death mod, is abbandoned and commonly substituted by "Violens".

SkyUI, if you have v4.1 or less, needs updating for newer mods.

Cloaks of Skyrim, is now incorporated in "Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade". Overall, i 'd look at STEP core and then see about the rest of my mods, how recently update they are, how compatible they are (reading the post section of a mod to see if more recent posts mention problems helps a lot) etc.
