6 GB.

So does that mean that the other 6gb will have to be downloaded off the Internet? As a safety thing?

Because optimized it may be, BF3 itself is 12 gb. I can't see how they'd compress a game half or more it's original size. I see something to do with online activation to get the other half of the game since piracy is so common with singleplayer games.

No, the game is 6Gb, and the whole game is on the install DVD.

What does Skyrim have to do with Battlefield 3?

Is it that hard to believe that Skyrim is only 6Gb and that Bethesda knows how to compress stuff?

The PC version of BF3 makes full use of the PC, Skyrim doesn't, it's a straight up port. People read too much into install size, we don't know what the texture compression is, how often textures are reused, what the sound compression is like or how much speech there is. Oblivion GOTY only needed 4.6GB and Fallout 3 used 7GB, I don't see what people are so worried about.

Devs at Bethesda have said that they've learned to become very good at making open-world games, and how to make a small install. They also use BSAs, one of the best compression methods. Oblivion was a small installation...do you think it was a small game?

Don't you guys know that enjoyment of a game is directly proportional to how big its install size is?

Clearly.

I refuse to buy inferior games that take up less than 15 gigs!

(We really need a sarcasm smiley...)
