YouTube Interview with Todd Howard

Note, this interview is from August 8th, so I'm not saying this is new, just realizing there has not been much talk of it, so I am bringing it up.

"Aedra and (most) Daedra will have an appearance in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim." ~Todd Howard

YouTube Link ~ Around 7:00 minutes in.

Just something I was wondering about and finally stumbled upon. Happy to see that they won't be neglecting the lore of the Elder Scrolls. This was one of my many worries, as an extremely avid lore-fanatic for the Elder Scrolls.

I'm really looking forward to learning more about the Gods of the Elder Scrolls and the lore itself! Todd Howard made a slight slip up and was talking about the plane of existence Oblivion and he said "The Gods of Oblivi-, I mean, Daedra" Which slightly confuses me because I thought they were both considered divine powers. Anyone have any thoughts on his words here? Daedra are powerful, but not Gods? For some reason I thought that both Aedra and Deadra were gods. If this wasn't true, then it would be assumed that the Aedra are/were vastly more powerful than the Daedra.

He also describes an overlying theme of a conflict between the Mer (Elves) and the Men. He says that many side-quests and side-plots will be involving a battle that the "Men" believe since they are the original rulers of Tamriel, and the Elves invaded. So there is an overlying conflict between them.

Raw and cooked forms of all meat, This makes me happy as small details like this mean there are more reasons to go cook meat, and those details REALLY add to the immersion of the game.

I'll give serious credit to Todd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios. He states in this interview he is trying to make the ultimate warrior, ultimate mage, and ultimate thief game, all in one, and he really wants to pay off all of those roles. It's details like this that will, and have, set The Elder Scrolls on a new level from other RPG's.

Another example would be the new animations. People are DOING something. Every little detail that makes the world feel alive and moving adds to the immersion, which is arguably an extremely important reason people keep playing a game. They care about the world and the storyline.

I am going to try to collect as many books as possible in game! :D

Daedra are extremely powerful, immortal, supernatural beings with greatly varying levels of influence. One may simpy be as strong as an extremely hardened human warrior and another may have God like powers. Whether or not they are actual gods is more a matter of opinion and interpretation rather than fact.

LoL blaming the limits of the Console when they could be Optimizing it for every console and pc. Adding features just for the pc and so on. I'm kind of disapointed that they favor console more.

I mean come on whats holding you back :verymad: Presure from Micro$oft???

It seems like thats the way most game companys are going lately, sad face.

@Thor. : The main reason is that a larger number of people will have access to the game on console. Most people can't (Or won't waste their money) on a PC that can run Skyrim at the same level of efficiency that a console-optimized version could.

It's a simple matter of "I'd rather sell the product to the larger player base"

Bah thats no reason to downgrade a pc version of the game. Take for instants Mass Effect 2, it was giant hit and all and they still managed to Optimize it for pc and utilities dx10 to its fullest extent.

Most Video cards that can run Skyrim have atleast the capability to have Optimized gameplay with dx 10 or even 11. It utilities the video card more effeciently. using its Processor Cores so to speak.

It was nice to see that racism is supposed to be important to the world of Skyrim. It would have been weird to wander around as an elven dragon born with no one even batting an eye.

The number of ifs after he started talking about what could have been done with better hardware pissed me off a bit though. The idea that if they designed for modern PCs, there would be less load screens and more actors on screen sounded like a massive improvement. Everyone hates load screens, being able to sneak into a city by climbing over its walls is very appealing and seeing large double or even triple digit crowds regularly gathering instead would have been awesome.

Time Begins

Akatosh appears in the void of formless Aurbis and imposes his regulation of existence upon the universe. Many et'ada recognizable to modern mortals begin to coagulate.

Nirn is conceived

A Padomaic being named Lorkhan envisions the creation of a new kind of divinity: a planet called Nirn. This realm will fulfill the urges of his sphere by serving as a construct that will allow him to achieve ultimate liberty- Nu-Mantia.

Aedra and Daedra

Lorkhan convinces the modern Aedra and other Anu-aligned spirits to give of themselves and aid in Creation. Magnus will serve as the new world's architect. A collection of prominent Padomaic spirits reject his proposals and decide to create worlds using only their own divinities. They are now known as Daedric Princes. After several millennia have passed, a particularly powerful Daedric Prince, Jyggalag, is cursed by his peers to become Sheogorath, the embodiment of his sphere's polar opposite.

Creation

The Mundus is formed, the hub of the wheel that is Aurbis, and most of its creators die or are crippled by their sacrifices. They exist as shadows of their former selves. The new land is a chaotic place where time follows no clear path and creation is constant, following a downward spiral that causes levels of existence to create lesser levels beneath themselves. This results in the dissolution of many spirits and the creation of mortals, whose memories from this time result in their creation myths.

Discord

Magnus and his followers, the Magna Ge, perceive the trap that is the Mundus and abandon their creation. They flee, ripping holes in the sky in their desperate departure to Aetherius. The sun and stars now allow magic. The Twelve Worlds of Creation flourish.

Convention

Akatosh sees the trap as well, but does not flee.[citation needed] Instead, he throws himself into Mundus. His capsule lands in what will become the Isle of Balfiera in High Rock and becomes known as Adamantine Tower, the world's oldest structure. His full presence causes all spirits and chaotic forms of creation to crystallize, and time becomes linear and ordered. This is the end of the Dawn Era. He calls a council of the gods and the Aedra elect to punish Lorkhan. As punishment Trinimac tears Lorkhan's heart from his breast. Auri-El fastens the heart to an arrow and fires into the sea where it lands as a fiery meteor to form the Red Mountain and Vvardenfell - the Star-Wounded East.

Mortals

The development of mortals now follows slow, comprehensible paths. The diverse people of Tamriel become the Mer (Elves): The Dwemer (Deep Ones), the Chimer (Changed Ones), the Bosmer (Green or Forest Ones), and the Altmer (Elder or High Ones). The fracturing of the Aldmer along cultural and racial lines is the Sundering of Aldmeris, and the continent no longer exists. The other Ehlnofey became the Hist, beasts, and the humans of Nirn, who will eventually split into racial groups, including the Nedes, Nords, and Tamriellic Aboriginals, as well as the Redguards of Yokuda.

This is a rough idea of how the Aedra and Daedra came into being. Along with the creation of Mundus and eventually Nirn.

I can see a Open city mod and crowds Mod in the near future. If game devs wont do it, Modders will.
