Goliath978 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 In the sounds of Skyrim trailer we learned that there are just over 110 NPC roles in the game...that's a bit...low. Actually pathetic. If you take 5 major cities, thats 22? And then you have towns and other POI. 110 is a truly sad number of NPC's

Here are the named NPCs in Oblivion Quote http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:People Can you link to your source please?
anandus Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Isn't it 110 NPC-voices, and that a bunch of NPC voices are recycled like in Oblivion?
JimboUK Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 That doesn't sound right, is there a link for this?

They have 70+ voice actors, split over 110 roles, not 110 NPCs. That is, they could have 300 NPCs but only 110 of them would be unique. To compare, Oblivion had 12 voice actors, split across all the NPCs in the game (eg. after 12 NPCs, plus a few extra if some voice actors could properly alter their voice, you'd have duplicate voices). Vid is here, btw: Edited November 4, 2011 by Zinro

This being said, I just listened to it. http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/11/03/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-trailer-shows-off-the-sound-of-skyrim Todd says a 110 -roles- and thats a bit of a generic word. Im not sure if it really means just 110 NPCs TBH. It would seem strange than they use five times the amount of voice actors in Oblivion in order to produce only a quarter of the content. The amount of voiced lines in Skyrim is supposed to be much higher than any previous Beth title by a wide margin. Either these 110 NPCs have a lot on their minds, or we're missing some piece of the puzzle. My guess is that we just dont know what he means by "Roles", and theres actually way more than 110 named NPCs, but I could be wrong. Edited November 4, 2011 by Valamyr
hejpadig Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 They meant that they have around 110 voice actors this time around. And Oblivion only had a dozen. We will have far more than 110 NPCs but let's say that each voice actor plays at least five roles.
JimboUK Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Maybe the towns are padded out with no name local residents like FO3?

Roles are not NPCs, roles are things like "female Khajiit", "Male Argnoian", "Male Town guard", "Named character X" It's definitely not the overall number of NPCs, and Oblivion had much less...
