Can I use DDR3 Ram with an AM2+ CPU?

Recommended Posts

Sadly, no.

AMD chips have their memory controller built into them. AM2/AM2+ chips only support DDR2 memory. The whole purpose of switching to AM3 was to support DDR3.

There are AM3/AM2/AM2+ motherboards around, but the ones I have seen have been deactivated. Wouldn't be worth purchasing one anyways.
