PC User Interface

Using WASD is ridiculous for a PC game's menu. In the early 90s it could be excused.

So because it's PC, menus MUST use mouse only? Is this the "problem" everyone is having?

My complaint is that using mouse is very finicky!

Also it's hard to get a good overview of everything you're carrying on yourself.

Pretty much yeah, it's utterly stupid to be limited to a controller interface when you have the keyboard/mouse combo that allows you to have a much, much better UI ergonomy.

I agree that the mouse is somewhat slow in menus and, in a way, it makes you use wasd, but why is it such a major issue where people don't even want to play the game until it's "fixed" ?

It's not -broken-, it's just made for ease of use. (maybe not mouse, but I mean in general)

Why let a small thing such as using only wasd in menus ruin an amazing game?

If it's designed for a console then as far as PC gamers are concerned it IS broken!

I look at DarNUI and the Unified HUD Project and hope they can ride to the rescue when the CK comes out. The UI should have been customisable out of the box; console gamers may be used to just taking what they're given, regardless of how much they've paid for a game, but PC gamers have come to expect the ability to adjust what they see in the FO/TES franchises. Immersion is all well and good, but I don't want to have to open different menus to see how much weight I'm carrying, how long my buffs will last etc.

To my mind the first things that need sorting out are:

- active spell icons with countdown timers,

- weapon status icons that show info like uses remaining for enchanted items, whether they're poisoned or not and time remaining for bound weapons,

- carry weight remaining.

Any others?

@Moogiefluff: They used XBox and PS3 for testing. I worked at EA in Burnaby for a bit as a tester (Need For Speed: Prostreet) 90% of the testing was done on PS3, XBox360 and Wii. The only PC stuff was for networking I think. And that was only the last month of testing. EA develops for XBox then ports to the others.

@Sthom1968: 100% percent agreement. If I wanted to play a console, I'd buy one. I play RTS as well as FPS and ARPG. I'm a 3Dmodeler. And I have better hardware specs than an XBox.

Categorized Favourites by favmenumodder is how it should have been done.

SkyUI to fix the inventory (more added later apparently)

Now if someone could fix the mouse. It emulates the thumbsticks right now and with the lag, its nearly impossible to use a mouse. Rotate around a single item? Useless in my view. I used Oblivion's inventory for seeing quickly what I had equipped on my character. Before SkyUI, I had to go searching through my entire inventory to see if I was wearing Morokei or Volsung. Now in SkyUI, I click on the name header and it changes to equipped, then enchanted and a few others. Also sort by weight and cost. Doesn't carry over into merchants just yet, but its coming.

I guess their point of view is two consoles overrules PC. Even though PC made Bethesda. They probably developed for XBox (easier than PS3 apparently) and then ported, just like EA.
