BaleriontheBlack
ok guys I have been reading A LOT about this issue. I know some people are going to lose patience and tell me to go back and read a few pages more, but if someone has the patience of a saint please please please take some time to help me with this! All of the sudden, say within the last couple weeks or so, my skyrim has been crashing so hard that it instantly shuts my PC off. When I go into my PC error logs, I see that it has been improperly shut off and it says the issue is kernel-power. I take this to mean that my power supply is insufficient. My question is, why after 225+ hours logged is my power supply all of the sudden insufficient? The only changes I have made to my pc since installing skyrim are updating my video card drivers, and downloading a few minor mods. So I think what my question is, is it possible that I downloaded a mod that is somehow requiring skyrim to use more power than it was before? Can someone with the patience of a saint please help me with this? Maybe direct me to something or somewhere that will help me narrow this down? There are just so many pages to this discussion and Im getting a bit overwhelmed because well honestly Im not the most computer savvy. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it so much because right now this game is basically unplayable. :(

VISTA or W7? What BIT 32 or 64? You are going to get a lot of questions, and I don't think this is the thread to start it. I would create another thread with your problem since this thread is a crash of the game to a BLACK DESKTOP with no response from the keyboard so a hard reset is necessary. Google search your problem with your specs and do some research at some reputable site. My guess, your RAM may be going bad. You are in for some painful troubleshooting...never a fun thing. But "The answers are out there." http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f299/solved-kernel-power-41-63-error-434613.html Edited January 17, 2012 by ibrad
dreigner
since this thread is a CTD. actually, the thread was originally about fill system crashes that required a hard reset. people still continue to post CTD issues even after we stated it wasn't a CTD thread. AJ Rimmer Bsc.Ssc.
since this thread is a CTD. actually, the thread was originally about fill system crashes that required a hard reset. people still continue to post CTD issues even after we stated it wasn't a CTD thread. and those of us who do suffer the dread black screen no signal system crash wish it was a CTD,at least then a game restart would be quicker than a full system reset. thread has been sidetracked a few times by people not reading the start posts, and just want to tell the sufferers that they have no problems at all or get CTD`s...kind of annoying
felipev
I fixed my black screen hard crashes about a month ago, but I keep reading this post, waiting for an official Bethesda fix.Anyway, for those who didn't read the last pages, I'd just like to post again what fixed my problem (mine and a couple of others'). I just downloaded and installed the AC97's audio codecs from realtek's website. Really, just that.Plus, I'm using update 1.1 and the ENB anti-FREEZE patch 9. (Haven't tried without these, not willing to. However, these 2 alone didn't help). Now, I know this didn't work for some people, 'cause there's probably more than one issue causing the black screens for different people...but for those who haven't tried it yet, it's worth a shot, since it's really easy to be done. Does anyone think its possible that I downloaded a mod from this site that is causing this issue? I could list some of the mods I have downloaded... a faster way is to install another game, and if that game doesnt black screen reset you, then you can be positive its the game doing it. no need for any hardware checking or long stress inducing testing...just a simple check if other games work,if they do,and skyrim doesnt...you have found the problem.. sure you can try for a few days to twist and tweak your system to try and fix it,but then you might find no other games are then working...and believe me,this game really isnt worth the effort until the modders get thier hands on it and fix it. [but thats a long way away yet,as the gap between CK and game release has a direct effect on the modding, the best mods come from quick CK release, but the longer it takes the more pro modders move on,leaving the amateurs to try it. and if the amateurs start releasing bug ridden mods you`ll find the games going to be more unplayable than release day. which brings me to bethesdas plan with steam to start selling you mods as dlc.[but thats for another day when they try it]

kingsofglover
I often crash for no reason how to solve? You could start by explaining, in detail, what the symptoms are. Posting vague questions like this helps no one. I suggest going back 10 pages and having a read - some very useful info there.
