Skyrim complete PC crashes

I had the same problem with my gtx 570...it was my underpowered power supply a 550W. Modern gpus seem to require at least 600W supplies...I bought a Cosair 750W and other than the lights dimming, viola!

Yeah I kept expecting it's my cheapo psu, I'll bet when my 750w seasonic 80+ gold efficiency gets here it'll work.

That's the exact PSU I'm using, and yet here I am in this crash report thread.

Yikes,

Well the cheapo psu I already had was known for killing computer parts (xtreme gear) known to be a shitty brand.

So I guess it wasn't totally useless. Looks like we may need a modder's help or could be a driver issue.

Because I've experienced this crash in gta iv and the witcher II along with the fallout games.

That's funny, I haven't experience any kind of issues with The Witcher 2. The only other game I've played to where I have a similar crash where the screen goes black and nothing happens is Crysis 2 after the Dx11 update. Metro 2033 gave me some crashes although I not sure if they were CTD's or complete black screen reboot crashes.

I have the Corsair Enthusiast Series 750-Watt PSU, and am experiencing crashes left and right, so I don't think that has much to do with it.

Oh, I don't think mine is a corsair version it just says "SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply"

But yeah, it may not be the problem, either way extreme gear has no place on my rig and hopefully someone will find the issue out, lol.

My bet it's hardware / software related. Game works perfectly fine on my girlfriends laptop. I wonder if there is a list of system specs out there where this game was tested on. When I called BF3 support for the same problem I'm having with Skyrim, the support tech gave me a list of video cards that BF3 was tested on. The only thing he could suggested that would fix the problem is to buy a video card that the game was tested on :wallbash:

it makes no difference if the game runs on ultra low or ultra high it still reboots

i also have a corsair 550W psu, and i was only running 1 HDD while testing it. generally you dont even need that high of a PSU the marketing always makes it seem like you need a greater one so you spend money money. in reality you could probably get away running a 400W on most machines unless you have a tons of hard drives.

i encourage everyone to refund this game as i did already.. what is it 2 weeks ago?

its like hey, i bought a new laptop. s*** the drivers to run the screen wont be out for a few more weeks. sorry bro.

My system was hard crashing. It would work fine for a long time, then on some areas it would be all I could do to reboot often enough to make it through - but waiting a while before restarting seemed to help *some*.

I went to the website for my mobo and pulled down all the latest drivers. No change - still hitting 'hot spots' in the game where I'd have to reboot every 2 minutes of game play.

Tried a few other things - adjust the audio to 24bit 41Khz thing, start directly from the skyrim exe and not through steam, etc. No luck.

Then I went to the RealTek website and downloaded the *actual* latest drivers: Abit's site was at revision 190, latest realtek HD Audio driver is at revision 266. WTH!? Anyway, that seems to have fixed the problem (no crashes in four hours, versus maybe 30 minutes with no crash tops before this).

Moral of the story: try to update drivers using the chipset manufacturer's website, not the mobo manufacturer's.

Also, watch out for south-bridge fans going bad. I had that happen on an old Mobo, and the symptoms were very similar. Everything worked just fine until something started beating up on the sound 'card'.

Good luck to anyone else having a similar problem!

I have this problem too, random crashes, outside mostly, did the sound tests, lowered shadows to low, changed texture rendering to performance, I have 1.1, makes no difference. I was having actual computer resets until I upgraded my case but I still I haven't even been able to get very far due to this the game it is unplayable, runs pretty smooth just these crashes to desktop now with no error is dumb. I have an i3 with two HD 5770 1 GB cards CrossFireX 4GB of ram, Windows 7 64bit, latest everything driver wise too. I don't really know what to do, this game's basically broken, reminds me of Driv3r lol well maybe they will fix it but really it got 10 out of 10 rating? I heard it crashes on systems too and freezes how can it be amazing? About the sound drivers, I have a Sound Blaster Xfi 5.1 with latest drivers from their site, it still crashes like a son of a *censored* lol. Edited by dark27
