I've had a great idea that I don't have the slightest bit of skill for.

 

A revival of the postal service for the Commonwealth.

 

I get that we have the provisioners system, but I'm thinking a shop/workbench you need to staff in a settlement that you can drop other kinds of items that aren't scrap, like weapons and armour, then you can post them to another Post Office elsewhere in the wasteland. A place where you can drop all that excess armour that your shops don't have caps for, you can forward it onto another settlement that might have the money.

 

If you're overburdened with gear that you'd like to keep, you can drop by one of your settlements and pay to have it posted back to where-ever your personal armoury is located, provided there is a Post Office there of course.

 

Kinda along the lines of the old Mojave Express dropboxes from F:NV

 

I would also like to have Post Offices in Diamond City and Goodneighbor as well, possibly other places too. Not a drop box though, if at all possible, I'd like NPCs to staff the places.

 

For those of us who like deep immersion, possibly a cost-to-weight shipment option as well, I always thought the dropboxes of F:NV were a little OP. Heck, even have the option to C.O.D, you won't get your items unless you pony up at the destination though.

 

 

I feel like this is a large project, and I have never modded before. I'd love to have a go at voice-acting though, so I would like to be involved if someone does take this idea and runs with it.

 

What do people think?

Agreed, we need a broader purpose alternative to the provisioner system.

I like this idea.

 

However, the Drop Boxes are a good Idea for locations where settlements do not exist (Diamond City, Goodneighbor, Atom Cats Garage, etc) and Unassigned Settlers are unknown. Require Advance payment for a shipment to a drop box.

 

Post Offices in settlements, Drop Boxes in non Settlement locations.

 

And for those of us who are creating new locations, make it easy to add a location to the drop box system so my mod can exploit this mod.

I did find the Postal Deliver Service mod, which is essentially the drop boxes you can build in your settlements.

 

Having a proper post office with NPCs would be very cool in Diamond City and Good neighbour, kinda like the Mojave Express Office in Primm.

Looks like the mod I mentioned above is still a WIP, so its something to keep an eye on as its developed.
