What'd you do in Markarth?

I am currently in the midst of the quest and i didn't even knew. Here's what i've done so far:

I've done the quest about the sudden murder, which ended being surprised by the corrupt guards. i fought them off, went out and fought the rest of the city's guard off, all while i was wondering what the hell is going on. after getting away from markareth with a 'mere' 12k bounty on my head, i noticed in my journal (under "completed quests"!!) that i was supposed to get jailed to advance the story.

my question: can i still progress the quest by having myself arrested and jailed, and get rid of my bounty without having to lose my money?

Maybe just go back and get arrested?

Killed Madanach. Plan on assassinating Thonar later, for making the mistake of trying to frame me.

I just don't buy the whole Forsworn sob story. Honestly, eff them.

I've ran into too many Briarhearts and seen their rituals and their associations with witches. I've seen Forsworn running around and killing unarmed folk. On top of that, they attack unprovoked, and attack savagely. They don't produce anything of value, because they have no technical skills. They don't know the first thing about stonemasonry, or even proper metallurgy, as evidenced by their stone-age weapons and tools. The Dwemer built Markarth, and the Nords built most of the forts and structures they squat in when they're not in their silly little tents. In the intervening years, couldn't they have bettered their lots by acting like normal people and picking up job skills instead of whining about which lands belong to whom?

The Nords buy the ground out from underneath them so they can do something useful and productive with it, and instead of working up enough coin and enough influence to buy it back, all the Forsworn can do is rub those two little peas in their noggin together and rise up against the landowners. When that fails, they start murdering passers-by. Ulfric was right; these jobless, purposeless, tree-hugging squatters need to be wiped off the face of Nirn. Or, better yet, driven into High Rock where they belong; across the border west, they'll be right at home with all the other crazies.

I had to give this one up, I could not get anywhere with this one. I did allow myself to get arrested and could not fight my way out. I don't want to give anything away, but I found a lock pick and tried to unlock the jail door... got no where with that one either. Did the Skooma thing, tried to fight the Orc.... :wallbash:

When I had the choice of being arrested, I did fight the first time, when I left the shrine...I was being attacked by all the guards. I don't know if the quest is bugged, but this seemed to be a no win situation. I was at level 10 for this one and I may not have been strong enough to get through it, I may try this again later. Soooo...I loaded up just before I went into the shrine and said good bye to Markarth and left town. I'm surprised I got away with that much...LOL!

I did not kill Madanach and finished the storyline. After the events in the mines, everyone storms Markath and kills the guards and I'm assuming the leader of the Silver-Bloods (he was there at first but I could never find his corpse...). Afterwards they all go to some cave. I was hoping to get new quests from them there, but nothing.

For whatever reason, he always seems to turn into a pile of ashes. So look for a gray or blue glowy pile.

I'm not sure if this is standard, but when i escaped from jail it was night. Which means no one is out and about. Which means no civilian casualties. Also, i didn't actually attack anyone, and the Guards didn't touch me. There seems to be no morally negative effect from the whole quest chain.

As for the Foresworn 'sob story', its far more than that. Best i can tell, they were the survivors of the Falmer purge thousands of years ago, and when the Nords came and drove the Falmer underground, they took over the territories which the Foresworn had lived in. They lived as second class citizens for thousands of years until the Great War gave them the chance to reclaim their homeland, but Ulfric and his good 'ol boys put everyone they could find to the sword. Yes, Madanach was compliant in the whole abuse of power with the Silver Bloods, but there is a real reason why the Foresworn are so pissed off. Their association with Witches and such isn't a sign of their negitivity, but rather a a different religious basis. The Daedra worshipers regularly partake in sacrifice, but that doesn't make the inherently bad, neither are the Foresworn based on their religious beleifs.

I've realized while playing that I had to surrender to progress in the quest. While this makes sense it's a bit restrictive and linear.

Anyway long story short I decided to let them sort out their mess. The way I see it they're all bastards. At least the Forsworn care about the environment. The guards had it coming and the Silverblood too. I'm not saying that my character won't go after the Forsworn if they don't have enough brains to leave him alone. For now my character is fine, just got an apology from the Jarl. No sense killing more people -I'm trying my best to play a rather decent guy.

It's easy if you get yourself arrested, don't start any fights in the mine, just do what you have to to see the King & then escape with them,(you'll have to stab the snitch) you'll get your gear back & your name will be cleared.

They practice a form of necromancy. Forsworn Briarhearts are made by Hagravens from the corpses of Forsworn shamans. They cut a hole in the dead guy's chest and secure a literal briar heart in there with leather straps. Seriously. Kill one and look at the body. "Different religious basis" indeed.
