Wunderbot
It's the only location I've had this issue in: I enter the interior and my game just becomes extremely laggy, to the point of almost being unplayable. I thought that it might have been the result of something in my immediate surroundings, but the issue persisted throughout the entire dungeon. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
Wunderbot
Bump. Anyone any ideas? Want to make Mechanist's Lair my factory settlement, but it's impossible to really do anything with all the lag. Extra note: the lag first started as I approached the part near the entrance with all the laser tripwires in the decontamination arches. Thought they were the cause so spent ages biting through the lag to disarm them one by one. Didn't help and the lag has lasted throughout the entire dungeon ever since. xaosbob
I found your question while searching for a fix to this very thing. I am about 95% certain that the issue has to do occlusion and pre-culling. Fallout 4 does a rendering trick where it won't render some things that you wouldn't be able to see anyway in order to lessen the processing load for your graphics card. Older Beth games did a variation on this where, if you were in part of an interior space, where line-of-sight could actually be designed and controlled, parts of that space you cannot see are not rendered (it's a different method than FO4 pre-culling, though it is also used in FO4). I think the Lair isn't occluded/pre-culled correctly. The heart of the problem seems to be an area immediately below the arches you mentioned (I don't know if you have finished Automatron, so I won't spoil anything)--it is a large, seemingly empty space...that does not seem to keep the stuff on the side opposite your point of view from rendering. It's aggravating, because like you, I have not had this scale of lag anywhere else in the game, even on my below-spec PC. Downtown is the worst, but it is still usually playable. I was getting some trippy artefacting in the Lair, though, to the extent I thought my card might be going. lol I'm going to keep looking for a solution, perhaps a mod. If I have no luck, I may need to dust off the CK and see if there's anything I can do about it.
AreeSoothsayer
I checked around and found a couple mods that deal with changing settings that could help you out. Try them one at a time, most probably won't do anything but you never know. One affects your graphic settings, the other changes the textures themselves. If the problem is one or the other then one of these should give a positive effect. www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/73/?# www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/978/? ilomestari
Hello, I seem to be having extreme lag too at the Mechanist lair. It is only evident in one direction, and seems to be tied with the mechanist's location (the final battle area). I've tried updating drivers, minimizing my video settings, nothing works. The funny thing is, it didn't do this when I played the DLC when it came out. Can anyone help me or suggest what to do? I have no graphical mods active, could a quest mod, settlement mod (Homemaker) etc do this? This thread and wiki mention are the only source of this bug I found. From http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/The_Mechanist's_lair:There is a chance for a saved game that the Mechanist's Lair cell may become graphically glitched when facing certain directions. Textures may pop in and disappear as you angle the camera and FPS drops dramatically when looking in that direction. There is unfortunately no known fix for this issue so far. The only way to circumvent this is by starting a New Game and hope for the best. Note that this issue does not make it impossible to finish the quest but makes it really tedious. (Tested on version: 1.5.157, Automatron and Far Harbor installed) [verification overdue] Gameplay video of the issue:https://youtu.be/9FJuAgkuJZs
ilomestari
...aaaand I solved it myself. The culprit was Scrap Everything - Automatron.esp. Without it, everything runs smoothly :D Will bug report now.

It makes parts of the game-world zap in and out of view when looking around at certain angles. It has also nothing to do with rendering stuff that is normally invisible, but with the use of scrap mods that can scrap items which normally aren't scrappable. The game then tries to render the items that have disappeared from the game with the so-called LOD-flicker as a result. There's only one mod that I know of that counters this problem, and that's FortuneQuacker's No More Disappearing Act mod.
