Thicketford
Does anyone else avoid using Nuka Cola in survival mode? I can't justify chugging a soda in the middle of combat, so the only time I would ever use them is as a regular drink item. However, I just can't find any reason to use them (other than assuming my character likes the taste of them). Let's look at the actual effects... Restores 20 HPThe amount of health restored is insignificant compared to a stimpack, even without any points in the 'medic' perk. It may be handy if you have only lost a small amount of health, but it isn't worth it as you will just get hungrier from the caffeine effect and reduces your HP further from rad damage. Restores 10 AP My character can fully regen her AP in about 15 seconds. Drinking a cola with an empty AP bar shaves off maybe 2 seconds at the most. If you like to pause combat to drink 10 sodas at once, this might be useful, but personally I find it kind of pointless. CaffeinatesMy character gets regular sleep at night. There have only been two situations in 40 hours where I felt it was necessary to go without sleep. In those situations, the caffeine effect was pretty neat, but it's otherwise pointless. To make things worse, the caffeine effect makes you hungry, so you have to use up more of your supplies. ThirstIt only seems to restore half as much thirst as purified water. You need to drink more, which results in your character getting hungrier. RadsOn top of all this it gives you 5 rads. If I was making a mod to change them, I would probablyRemove the hunger effect from the caffeine.Change the restore AP to an AP buff or faster AP recharge.Make them slightly rarer. Does anyone else playing survival actually use colas? Do you think they need be re-balanced for those of us who don't drink them during combat? RattleAndGrind
I quit Survival mode because it really bored me (long story). But I seem to remember that Nuka Cola Quantum helped. HP +400AP +100Rads +5 Or better yet, Ice Cold Nuka Cola Quantum. HP +650AP +125Rads +5 I do not remember the other attributes provided by these beverages in Survival mode, In fact, I didn't even remember the ones above. Oldtimers disease. All praise google. thunderlord2200
they help me alot i think i mostly play at night and i normally dont sleep. (its not like most other things in the horribly made survival i agree is boring at the best. survival dont feel it) most pop items i find i normally drink they take away the need to go to bed icon of some time. but in truth i normally dont carry them unless i make nuka bombs (threw a mod)
PoliteRaider
They're not something I use very often but they're occasionally handy in emergencies. If for some reason my character hasn't had a chance to sleep and needs to go on (in the midst of a large dungeon for example) then caffeine can be a good short term relief from tiredness and there's usually some nuka cola in most places. The healing from Quantums are occasionally handy if I'm desperate though. Otherwise no, it's not really very useful. I mostly just collect them to decorate settlements with OCDecorator. RaffTheSweetling
I would say it is pointless period. I have never drunk a single Nuka or Vim or alcoholic drink in the survival mode or otherwise. Come to think of it, I've never eaten any pre-war or irradiated food either. It's all pretty much pointless in my opinion.
jjb54
I'm trying to find just a very good and fun "survival" mod that is to the likes of: Skyrim: Frostfall.Skyrim: Realistic Needs and Diseases. They basically made it so you needed to eat - drink - sleep and dress for the weather. So that the Nuka Cola - Water - Deathclaw Steaks and such actually NEED to be eaten, other than, just before battle and a "quick Health Pick-me-up." Everything I have read about the in-game survival mode has told me, "STAY AWAY FROM IT! IT SUCKS!!!" < - direct quote from a few posts that I read. I guess they will come .... just have to be a little more patient. . o 0 (.. but should anyone know of a mod / mods that do this ... kindly send me a PM or post it. Please.) PoliteRaider
Chesko, who made Frostfall, has mentioned at one point that he might make a Radfall for fallout 4 but nothing confirmed so far as I'm aware. He's got a lot of Skyrim projects still so it might be a while. I don't think the in game survival mode completely sucks, since it came out it's the only setting I'll play the game on personally, but I would say that it could be better.
