A Tale of Two Systems

When the system requirements for FO4 were announced I was disappointed because I was not in a position to upgrade this one. My son, however, built a new machine that meets or exceeds all required specs and bought the game as soon as it was available. He has finally given up in frustration after months of CTD adventures.

He shared the game with me thru the friends and family setup on Steam. After installing it and being shocked at being able to play for a few hours I bought the game and have over 400 hours of play. This system has:

Core I5-650 (dual core @ 3.2 GHz)

8GB RAM

Radeon 5870 with 1GB VRAM

Vista 64 bit OS

This poor thing has been pretty trouble free, considering it probably shouldn't run this game in the first place. The frame rate does drop into the mid 20's in the heart of the city but it's still playable. Detail is set to medium with godrays off. It's never had a CTD, but had locked up a half dozen times. The only other issues it has are that it hangs on the loading screen from time to time and I have to quit and restart the game. The other is that I can't exit the game normally, it has to be killed with the task manager. The last problem showed up a couple of patches ago.

My computer is below the minimum specs for Fallout 4, yet I have played the game for well over 100 hours on maxed out ultra settings without problems with lag at all.

I am currently creating mods on that same computer.

PC specs are made up by companies that want you to spend more money on your computer than you actually need to.

AMD A8 7600 processor + AMD R7 370 + 8Gb RAM here.

The Launcher evaluate my rig to play on LOW when in fact I can set everything up to High or Ultra as long as I keep Distant Object Details Low.

A $80 processor with a $150 graphic card. My rig does not exceed $500.
