Nvidia Contest Joke

I'll say the same thing here that I've said elsewhere.

I spent two months and crammed/burned out to finish the DKS-501 in time for the contest, but had I known that the entries were just going to be selected at random, I would have at least taken the time to take it slow and steady and not entered the contest at all.

It's frustrating seeing that months of hard work to meet a deadline project in a new engine on top of a dayjob and a nightjob were squandered because of a Portal meme. (No offense to the authors of the selected mods, it's just disheartening to see what was selected by the judges)

The Nexus has really enjoyed what I released, and despite the bitterness of this whole debacle, I'm incredibly proud that my work made it to the top of hot files and is currently in the lead for mod of the month. That alone means a ton for me, especially given that I've never directly contributed to this community before. I'm sad that I won't be able to justify the lost time with a contest victory, prizes, or even 'official' recognition, but I've always made mods so people could enjoy them and to build my own skill as an artist. It may not win me a (much needed) paycheck or two, but at least it succeeds as a mod. At least they can't take that away from me.

As a fellow rookie artist/modder (I made the MK14 mod), yeah, it's a slap in the face.

Still, eh. Funnily enough, before making the MK14, I was considering remaking the FO3 sniper rifle. Good thing I didn't: you did it much better justice. I would've tacked on rails or some s***.

That guy who made the PEW mod must've gotten one hell of a payday. At least a GPU for replacing some sounds. My God, that sounds like heaven.

Now how in the hell this list got selected is BEYOND ME... Will someone please explain to me how our mod War of the Commonwealth didn't make this list compared to the straight garbage that did? Seriously.... Something is F***ED

And that I know, DD. But something I don't get is what the F*** these guys were thinking or what were they SMOKING when they picked them....? There are several of your mods that are better than any single one on this list, as well as WOTC. It is a sad day for modding thanks to these idiots.

Got a bit of a laugh when I read on one of the finalist's page that the author couldn't get his NPC to work, so he settled with just telling the story via terminal entries. That's totally me in a nutshell. :D

I think this comp is definitely a popularity contest / dubious distinction award, more than anything else. Like letting people feel good about themselves regardless of the effort involved. (reminds me of Games Workshop painting competitions)

I also honestly don't know how they could have expected any decent quest mods would even be entered in such a short space of time.

"pew pew" lmfao!

Edit - WOW - the posts on the Methesda.net thread are no laughing matter at all. NVidia really forked up big-time. I'm speechless.

Ok I know I'm just repeating what everyone's already commenting on but I need to vent some frustration. I spent about an hour last night with my jaw on the ground speechless trying to wrap my head around how at least half of these mods were selected as finalist. Now I'm not saying that the mods are bad themselves (most of them at least) but a lot seem to be either plagiarising, Team mods, Fraudulent entries or so far off showcasing what the CK can actually do it hurts my brain. My mod is by no means the best mod ever but I at least figured I would be beaten out by more deserving mods but this is as the title says a joke. I entered my mod into the data category under the impression that the workshop being one of the major additions to Fo4 would be highly showcased. In my opinion only one mod chosen for this category even comes close to what it should be in there. And then to also be beaten by a mod that would have taken all of 10 mins to complete after I've spent 900+ hours of sleep deprivation and starving myself to work on my mod is more then a slap in the face.....I'm feeling slightly postal

I mean I even left a bug I knew may temporarily break some peoples games in the version I submitted because I didn't want to break the rules by updating to fix it! And I also removed what I'd used from NV because I didn't want to submit work that wasn't mine! Now I feel like a f***ing tool for actually following the rules and to me that's not fair on anyone. Especially the thousands of authors that should at least be given some acknowledgement for the work they put in for the community. So I've chosen to boycott the competition, I know it's not going to make a difference to the outcome but I can at least feel better knowing I still have the thousands of fans that appreciate my hard work even if a bunch of tossers at a company that supposedly make hardware for gamers can't. Frankly if this is the way they run a competition whats their engineering support going to be like....80 hours of sandwiches!

For the people that are interested here's my entry....Mind you this is my nexus upload which is better anyway ;)

Tins cookiepocolypse is more than a decent quest mod, with over 30 of my build mods merged seamlessly as well as settlement events, optional new loot system and mechanics, all fully customizeable, as well as I believe more content than any of their workshop DLC...

If this was anything but throwing darts at a board I'd be surprised, they didn't even look at some of the entries

Uhh I don't know where you read that but I never had trouble getting the NPCs to work, he's even in the mod working perfectly fine. In fact, I always planned to tell the story through notes and terminal entries. What I couldn't get to work in a timely manner was quest because I have not the slightest clue on how those work lol I didn't even make the mod with the contest in mind, I just entered for the hell of it and I was surprised it was picked. I don't think it's based on popularity though. My mod isn't particularly popular on PC unlike many others. The categories are obviously completely out of wack. I mean my mod is in the same category as a patch and a companion mod. I mean, there are some pretty good mods up there i.e Faction Housing, Vivid Weathers for example. But I think everyone can agree that the "PEW laser sound" mod is a little ridiculous for being a finalist.

I've emailed a handful of companies to help bring this to the light so we can have some justice as modders. I hope someone writes an article about it because I know that a lot of people are salty.

It's really upsetting for anyone that put away days, hours, and weeks getting their entries in.

Especially when you know what goes into modding, what it takes, and how long it takes to do something specific.

Looking at you PEW Weapons.

DD, I didn't mean my post to sound like your mod wasn't a good quest, dude. I have no doubt that it was. And I am always impressed by your work, mate. (Though this one I haven't actually played yet myself). Mostly I meant mods like the ones I make take many months to build the environments from scratch so a comp like this, so early in the CK's life, is out of the question for me. (I wouldn't have entered it anyway though. I never win competitions. lol)

@T9X69 - My sincere apologies. I mixed up your mod with another mod in the finalist list. I will edit my post. I'm always putting my foot in my mouth. Sorry, mate. (edit) I had not meant offense anyway; It had just made me smile because that's exactly the kind of problem I face in my own modding work.
