What is the point in a warhammer?

i want to apologise a little bit. it seems warhammers are a little better than i thought. i've been comparing weapon of varying materials and smithing qualities.

taking a proper look at things it seems i'm usually seeing greatswords around 60-70 damage, and warhammers with 70-80 on the same character. The difference generally is 10 or 11 points. so far i've looked at weapons up to elven/orcish/dwarven/glass quality. So it works out to around 16% more damage i'd say?

i still feel that greatswords have better DPS though, and they definitely have the advantage of being more effective against weak enemies - if your sword can kill in one hit then it's better hands down due to lower refire delay

2 handers

Great Swords

Reach: 1.3

Speed: 0.7

Warhammers

Reach: 1.3

Speed: 0.6

I'm curious where these values come from. I'd guess your source is good, but it "feels wrong" to me, i thought hammers were slower than that.

My sauce is Skyrim.esm.

Go look at the data entries yourself. FO3edit can open the esm and you can read most of the entries.

edit: on a side note, uniquely warhammers look to have their own animation set... All others are shared so can definitely be calculated with an arbitrary time. Warhammer animation length could in fact be longer, which would make the comparison basically wrong.
