Where did i go wrong

So i am trying to learn how mod stuff, so far im up too knowing basic textures and i recently tried working with 3d models. I watched a short video making objects glow and while i found difficult this is was the result.

I was pretty pleased the way it turned out, however when i tried to practice on 2012 i kept getting this.

Where am i going wrong? any help would be great.

There are like 5 ways to render glow effects in max.... You haven't posted what method that you used, what renderer or the material breakdown.
