Companion switching to default armor...

My companion Illia will randomly unequip the robe I gave her (Archmage), she also does this with the bow (I've only been able to make her use the Daedric bow once, every other time has been the default wood bow). Sometimes removing an item from her inventory will make her put on the robe again, but 90% of the time it doesn't. Rarely she decides to put the Archmage robe on again by herself, but the problem will come up again later.

This HAS to be a bug, the same thing happens with Aela.

What can I do to make her stop reverting back to default randomly? This is extremely frustrating.

I have found that it has to do with AR of the armor. Enchantments are ignored. In fact given 2 equal items they tended to equip the unenchanted one...

Its hard to get some one who wears light armor by default to equip a weaker armor... ie a robe.

as for the bows... yeah you need to give them arrows and the bow.. and it still rarely works right.

She wears a robe by default, but as far as I know there's no way to increase the AR of a robe? If you're right then even +1 more armor to the robe would work.

in my theory that should work. you can probably give them any armor other than a robe and they'd probably equip it.

How would I go about giving a robe more AP though? They can't be reinforced at a work bench.

That's the thing, you don't. Which is why I think giving robes to a companion is goofy. Armor works perfectly fine, except that enchantment is ignored in the calculation of what is better. Obviously the best option would be the ability to actually force equip any item you wanted them to use.... needs a mod. I dare say it will be one of the most popular mods for skyrim.

For mages, I don't think there is any light armor or heavy armor that could possibly compete with the archmage's robe, so the fact that light armor works doesn't help lol.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
