It really bothers me that men are hitting on my male character

Ghogiel, we (the humanity) are not yet in the point were the majority of people really accepts homosexuality nor wants to see it in their computer screens.

Maybe it's a better idea not to be one to keep perpetuating the bigotry, ie chill out. In this instance you don't have to see it, so where is the problem. I haven't seen anything gay in Skyrim yet.

You don't have to see it on your screen is the point> stop chatting up men with your amulet of mara and you wouldn't have to see it. Or you could turn the screen off. Or wait for a mod. It's all about choice. You have your freedom to not have to deal with it, and who ever would want to go gay in game can do that if they wanted.

The interesting part is really how all this progressed. From subtle hints of homosexual characters in Oblivion, to a mincing Orc blacksmith in Shivering isles, to a mostly honest portrayal in New Vegas... To an open and equal acceptance in Skyrim.

Farther back than that even. Now why don't you show Uncle Crassius the real you, all of you.

As far as the original subject - if it bothers you, stop wearing the amulet everywhere. It's not like you cannot get a better one, there are literally amulets for each of the Nine Divines, as well as dozens of other statted ones you can pick up as early as level 1-2.

It seems that most of the people who has answered into this thread are against my argument, and I really really really don`t want to make this thread an debate of homosexuality in general. Nor want to make any comments that people consider offensive, so maybe it`s better for me to rest my case here. I know when to back off, I said how I feel about it and encountered heavy resistance so I will go no further. :)

No one has an issue with you making a mod request on this. The objections people have had is to your other comments. When the CS comes out as for the mod as I am sure others will wish for it. Until then work with the suggestions to avoid this happening

Yep well they were just counter arguments until I realized that this is going to the wrong direction, and best thing is to just drop it.

4dvz, whats this " back then " you are talking about? First Skyrim is definitively not "back then", its on its one separate time track. Also if you want to use our own history as evidence that fails because homosexuality was pretty open in ancient greece and roman times, with the advent of the christian faith it went somewhat underground (or inside).

Someone also mentioned racism towards khajits as evidence that homosexuality would not be accepted in skyrim society, i dont see what that really has to to with it, racism and homophobia are different.

anyway as many people have stated

walking around taking to strangers while wearing magical love charm - what did you think was going to happen???

take it off and all will be well.

And that was my point the whole time.

But If you want to go even deeper with historical references for Tamriel, you'll find that, in many aspects, its culture has many treats in common with the paleochristianic Roman Empire, starting with the Rome inspired Empire (more evident than ever now in Skyrim) which pursues the Talos cult (Oddly enough, and leaving aside that he worked for the empire, he was a mortal who became a god), the Breton culture and High Rock in general. Moreover, homosexuality is known for being more accepted in polytheistic cultures rather than in monotheistic ones.

Right, the era Skyrim focuses on.

You should really get some treatment...

Do you think there was public gayness in the middle ages? And why should I get treatment, care to explain?

Actually yeah people F'd sheep, cows and other dudes, Hell they did that all the way up to the cowboy ages just a few years ago. (and this was not even considered Gay (look at the Romans)) it was just sexual pleasure. I think you just have a taboo mind set. Don't get me wrong, im not flaming you or trolling. its just well... i think your wrong and need to read some "non mainstream" history.

Who knows maybe that guard is just having a bad sex life with his wife and needs a good friend  .

I tend to see games like this as "Pseudo-Medieval" settings, as in the technology levels are appropriate to that time period on earth, there are castles, some elements are borrowed form earth history and culture, etc. It isn't an exact copy of earth history and culture with fantasy races, magic, and dragons. If you want to pick about one thing and say "People would frown upon openly gay people" and claim it's historical context, then I guess Lydia had better take off that armor and get back into the kitchen and have babies, because women were treated as little better than property then.

There IS no historical context, because these games are not of Earth's past. If the TES games were an alternative universe Earth setting where magic, fantastic creatures, and such were as common as technology today, then there'd be a context for it.

Don`t get me wrong, I don`t have a problem with gay marriages in real life or anything else. But to have multiple gay marriage possibilities in this game.. or to have men hitting on my male character many times, it just doesn`t feel right. Actually it`s quite disturbing to me, and with high possibility to high amount of other people too. I mean, would it sound healthy to have a kid playing Skyrim and marrying a male npc with a male character?

The game has a Mature rating, so if a parent lets their young child play it, they have made a poor parenting choice.

And besides, in the era Skyrim focuses on.. well, we all know that being gay on public would had been a bad idea back then, as it still is on many countries even these days. So besides being questionable, it`s also unrealistic to have it happen in broad daylight with other people around.

We don't know any such thing. In ancient Greece and Rome, gay soldiers were common and open. It was thought that fighting next to their lover would inspire a soldier to feats of bravery. The emperor Hadrian (among others, but he's pretty famous)--you know, the one who ordered the wall to be built to keep the barbarians in Scotland--was openly gay. There are sculptures, paintings and tapestries from the "dark ages" that show men embracing. In short, you need to learn to do research before you make statements.

Why did Bethesda want to include being gay to Skyrim?

Oh, maybe because people wanted it? Or maybe because it is and always has been part of life? Just guessing.

Again before somebody comes here defending gay rights, this post has nothing to do with them and I have nothing against gay people in real life. It`s just that in real life I have the option of not entering a gay bar, and I don`t have gay people flirting to me on the streets. So please, if you want to make an argument against me don`t base it on me being a hater or something. I`m just thinking that it was totally not necessary to have gayness in this game.

Let's be clear--I'm not "defending gay rights" in this post. I'm merely pointing out where you have made false statements. And while I have yet to have any NPC hit on my character in this game, I assure you I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch if it happens. Because it will be, you know, a bunch of ones and zeroes, not something that is happening in real life.
