Is this screen tearing, lag, studdering, something else?

I have the same issue, for me this happens in Sancuary when looking towards the east end of the settlement. No Faction Overhaul installed, removing HD Reworked didn't help. Like you, Vormina, I tried removing some mods, but I couldn't find the troublemaker... I have 200 mods installed and I'm not sure since when this problem exists. I can live with it, if it is just Sancuary, I didn't check Vault 88 yet. Uff...

Maybe some information here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/4675935-build-your-vault-mod-odd-visual-glitch/

Well, I found out mine was caused by me deleting the overturned subway train in Vault 88 in the CK. Guess it had something to do with the Precombined mesh mess...oops, I mean Bethesda's performance enhanceing strategy.

Guess you gotta be extremely careful what you delete or what mods you use that delete or "clean up" certain areas. This Precombined mesh business is going to make modding very difficult.

I'd like to just be able to fix it by deleting some misfunctioning mesh but to be honest I don't have any idea of what could be causing the problem nor if it's multiple items.
I'm working on a vault-settlement project and it actually is quite big....so it would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I deleted the overturned train car from the console and am having this prob only in vault 88. Any way to fix this? Or put that object back?

I had made an esp with a few changes including deleting that train, I've learned the hard way to make changes in plug-ins instead of in game, easier to fix. Once I returned the train I stopped having the visual glitch. This Precombined Mesh thing makes deleting objects tricky.

I think there's two different things here. Don't know what to call the problems from the OP, but the visual glitches described by Vormina and a couple of others is called LOD-flicker and is caused by pre-culling when having scrapped/deleted objects that normally can't be scrapped or shouldn't have been deleted, which the game then tries to render, resulting in odd visual glitches (often seen as a weird in and out zapping of parts of the surrounding; in Vault 88 there's also a form of psychedelic swirving of a kind of photo-negative looking backdrop, especially in the main corridor when having scrapped some of the obstructing concrete).

The No More Disappearing Act mod by FortuneQuacker does away with the LOD-flicker, but only in outside cells, not inside ones...

My glitches were the same as OP's, not LOD-flicker as I get that in several areas. I use No More Disappearing Act but sadly it seems to only work in vanilla sized settlements and I use Settlement expansion all in one, so it doesn't work outside the normal areas ( my Croup Manor encompasses all of Nahant ).

The visual glitch OP and several of us have experienced is the weirdest damn thing, it's like a texture you are looking at "freezes" and as you move your camera the texture then "drags", still frozen, and leaves a screen full of tracers, almost like some games "drunken vision" does. The first time it happened to me I thought I'd accidentally drank some Gwinneth Stout lol.

For me, it only happened when looking in a certain direction ( North ) and it was happening everywhere inside the vault, I isolated it down to being caused by deleting the subway train, when I put the train back it stopped happening.

I use Build High - Expanded Settlements and have no problems whatsoever at settlements that have been turned into huge areas. Sanctuary Hills for instance encompasses the whole island with both bridges (to right where the dead raider and mutt lie) and the complete Vault 111 area as well... Jamaica Plain has the church and graveyard included as well as the higher ground with the bus stop right up to the water of the partly submerged raider village... no-where do I have problems with LOD-flicker after having scrapped or deleted (even whole houses) through console.

And I know about the psychedelic black & white freeze views inside Vault 88 (since I have them too) but those happen only (in my case) after having scrapped the concrete (brick) rubble in the corridors. That brick rubble isn't supposed to be scrapped (I use Spring Cleaning to scrap extra stuff) although I'm not sure since I never play without SC...

But Vault 88 is a bug-fest to me anyway, even without those weird hypnotising views. I slammed the door on that vault and ain't going back either... unless maybe when they release an all-in-one version of the game in the near future which will (hopefully) have all the wrinkles ironed out.

So for anyone talking about scrapping mods, bUseCombinedObjects=0 and so forth, as far as I'm aware of what you're talking about is the LOD flickering, which is not the error described by the OP, but IS a problem with scrapping things that aren't meant to be scrapped. That's fine, however, as there are mods to fix it.

What the OP is talking about, and what I was STILL experiencing for ages is different. Thanks to this thread, I've managed to find out where the problem is - in my case, its because of the "Simply Modular Housing" Mod. As SOON as I uninstalled it, the problem went away (which sucks, because I had some MASSIVE structures with things pinned to the walls - if I uninstall SMH . . . well . . . yeah).

Mod loading order, as far as I can tell, does not matter. There is no fix (load order wise). Maybe some actual mod authors would be able to find what went wrong, but I'm gonna guess that something in SMH was changing something that should NOT be changed. . .

Well - I'm off to fix my settlement (gonna give myself back the 8000 plus wood and at least 5000 steel I used to make it using console while I'm at it :/ )

Hope this helps some other people fix their issues!
