It's the actual reason physical media is being forcibly phased out, regardless of what the market thinks about it. Physical media presents a copy protection issue that doesn't exist with virtual/online storage. Also the general trend due to corporate bean counting is from getting people to pay something for something tangible, to paying the same something for nothing tangible. IMO Microsoft started this absurdity in earnest with their so-called "OEM" licensing, where people continue to pay hundreds of dollars for "software" that exists entirely as a pre-doomed-to-eventual-failure hard drive partition, and includes no media or even technical support whatsoever. It's very close to pure profit and ka-ching ka-ching go Microsoft's bank account balances. It's why their employees are among the wealthiest people in the world.
