Retexturing the little things!

Hey guys!

So now that I've been playing Skyrim like a MADMAN for over a week, it's finally time to get into modding :) I first thought I would begin big, but that didnt work out with my schedule, so let's begin small! Since sooo many others here have already began working on retexturing obvious things like gear, nature and architecture, I decided to put my hands on the little things instad that Bethesda cursed with awfully lowered resolutions and compressing. You know, all the clutter and details you see spread all over interiors and caves? I can not imagine anyone not reacting to the awful lantern or mugs!

I havent seen anyone dealing with these things yet, so I hope I'm not competing with anyone :P

Anyways, just to make it clear already;

-I'm only working with complete retexturing (Yes that includes speculars ;) ). So no upscaled originals with some "fancy" layers of sharpening here.

-This is not supposed to be a super-mega-highres-texture-pack. I'm trying to keep things fairly optimized, as they should've looked from the beginning.

-Right now I'm a little eager with getting things done, so I will most probably add more details on some textures later on (Consider everything WIP).

-I'm not considering wasting time on anything that already looks good ingame. Only the less fortunate textures that stands out! Later on with CK there might be some recoloring as well though.

Right now I have only been working on this for a day, so no stress! I'm planning on a first release later this week, whenever I feel I've fixed the worst ones. Until then I could need some suggestions on what textures to fix. Much appreciated if you also provide a screenshot of the object, just to avoid confusions!

Right now I have about 10 objects retextured, starting with things common in houses. Here are some comparisons (Omg, that lantern, omg :facepalm: );

The lantern looks good :D I ended up messing a bit around today with the same textures of that horn candle. I’ll probably do the chest because they really bother me the artwork is very good just lack of detail. The only 2 that come to mind that are also bad are the stone table tops and shelves in the dungeons

I know, I feel really bad for the artists at Bethesda when I see how their hard work ended up in the release-version of the game :( I cant even imagine how beautiful the game looked before this madness. Such a waste!

Some shelves has caught my attention too actually (Slightly more than the rest), now that you mention it, but I'm not sure which textures they use yet. Will have to investigate this later. There's another nice project dealing with furnitures already, so I'm trying to avoid getting too involved with those textures for now :teehee: But I'll put it on my list!

The lantern is missing some detail in your retexture..

Yep, I skipped the engravings for now. That tiny 128x128 texture was just waaay too blurry to completely understand the uv-mapping when rescaled to 1024 :P I'm going to export the model later on and get a proper template to work with. That object is so thin and small anyway, so I doubt anyone will really notice it ingame, except for you of course :pirate:
