Frustrated ... DLC with No Warning

I'm all for DLC's, because I paid for the Season Pass.

But that being said: It would be nice if there was a HEADS UP.

I was playing this evening ... and suddenly my game CTD'd 4 times in a load row.

So I thought, check DLC. Nope, not highlighted.

So "saved game corrupted"? Next logical choice.

So first I thought, let's reboot the computer, just to be sure something is not glitched.

Loaded - Checked "Add-Ons" - no new HIGHLIGHTS, and game CTD'd on loading 2x's.

So I started to go back to the next prior saved game ... and wound up deleting 4 prior saves, only to find out. It was indeed NOT my saved games.

DLC - Vault Tech was the cause-effect. :P

As I'm heading for a Quest Objective and suddenly I get a NOTICE: LISTEN TO VAULT-TEC RADIO BEACON.

So Fallout 4 Sims Quest has started.

I was in the middle of a firefight when I got the message, but I didn't have time to pay any attention to it in the heat of combat. I just checked with Steam and apparently it was the DLC. I didn't have any of the game issues with it that you described though. I will have to get back into my game later and find out what the deuce it's all about. Thank you for the 'heads up'.

Your point is a serious one. Valve's owner owns Steam- and he famously has stated he wants to take over from Microsoft, and be even worse in forcing ALL Steam users to have to accept, without option, whatever updates Steam decides to cram down users throats- as a COMMERCIAL service to the publishers of the software Steam hosts.

Now this same guy spent tens of millions of dollars setting up criminal gambling networks targeting children, using purpose crafted virtual items in various Valve produced games- especially CS:GO. He employed economic experts specifically to craft a virtual currency, disguised to avoid early attention from the US authorities. Of course, in the last month, his entire gambling empire has crashed, as public exposure has him terrified of getting the 'Kim Dotcom' treatment, so he is burning it all to the ground just as quickly as possible.

A man who set his heart on hooking children on illegal gambling has zero conscience about wasting millions of hours of gamer time by forcing potentially system breaking updates on user systems FOR PROFIT. The digital distribution aspect of Steam is a good thing- for users and publishers alike. But the monopoly power this gives the boss of Valve is a very BAD THING.

Powerful people get off, psychologically, by the forced manipulation of those they consider 'lesser'. It is a HUMAN RIGHT for users of software to NOT allow auto-updates, given how dependent so many people are on their computer, and the possibility of updates having a ruinous effect. Every Steam user should ask why the boss of Valve insists on having total control over Steam Users' computers.

Curious about what time of the day that you noticed the DLC being installed? I seem to only get DLC installs during real late night hours when luckily I'm never playing. Not the same however for game updates. They come whenever they want to send them out. But I don't remember ever having a game CTD because of a game update. I've just noticed that they have been installed after quiting a game and then trying to start again and F4SE tells me I have a new version installed.

Let me check: The "issue" started about 8 PM PDT.

Like I stated, I did check to see and at first and second checks Vault-Tec was not Highlighted as installed. But obviously it was being installed and I have to admit, Rabit51 might have hit on something, I was in the heat of a Mutant Battle and I just got a notice I "Leveled Up" and there was another "blip", but I was in battle and simply did not pay attention, as I thought it was telling me something about the battle ... So it could have been the notice that Rabit talked about, I simply do not know, 2/b honest.

About mid-evening on the 25th so about 8pm sounds right. Bethesda had said that the release would come on the 26th so I expected it then.

The Rabbit

It was supposed to go out globally on the 26th at 12am GMT, which is US time minus at least 6 hours. Yesterday they sent out a tweet on @Fallout that it would go live at 7pm EST. So that time frame is right on target.

If it makes you guys feel any better, I was working on my mod, building a new model and went to test it in game. The game wouldn't load so I said "Damn! where did I go wrong?" Checked the mesh and all looked fine.

the game still wouldn't load!

I rebuilt the model over the next hour and then found that the DLC was installing and my first mesh was just fine! :wallbash:

Er, whut? Gabe Newell conspiracy theories? Do you have links to evidence of this?

Also, I'm not sure how Valve would profit from wasting gamers' hours by breaking their systems.
