crawe1x
The worst thing about starting over is getting the face right again, I hope someone can make a mod to save your face as a preset so you don't have to redo it every time. Even worse is the face cannot be adjusted in great detail I cannot get rid of the todd howard face from face01 and the other faces don't interest me at all. Yep, I always end up designing the same Steve McQueen wannabe character over and over. It reminds me of that quote about insanity, where you keep doing the same thing repeatedly. In a way, I'm glad Nuka World is the last DLC. Once it's out, I'm going to select all my mods and then not look at the Nexus for a couple of months while I finally get to do my playthrough all the way to the end (yeah right). TheGadget1945
So if we take your suggestion and add the balancing system such as a large triggered event which takes place once peace is achieved in all of your "zones", it would give the player something to work towards like a final boss which would be the climax of building all your settlements. I was thinking along these lines. I'm no expert on Fallout lore, but at one we learn that the Minutemen made their name after beating off a huge super mutant attack on Diamond City. Now that is the sort of battle I would like to fight late game. A kind of last hurrah for the wasteland bad guys - maybe several of them even, each aimed at a key settlement. Your alien idea could also work. Honestly, I don't know much about how the aliens figure in Fallout lore. It seems strange that there's this one alien and his ship, but nothing more comes of it. I just played the alien scene yesterday and it seemed to me that in real life you would go back to the Prydwen and Proctor Quinlan would say "Have you got any technical documents ?" . "No , just an alien spaceship and dead alien. You might like to take a look".

There is a tool called Face Ripper that can transfer face between save games, so I don't see why you guys are talking about this like it is a problem. Also, why would you ever "start over when a dlc comes out" or "because of mods?" Makes no sense at all. Fallout 4 is surprisingly stable when it comes to yanking mods in and out. I played up to level 122 on my first character. Went through ALL DLC's AS THEY WERE RELEASED (up to FH). Played with mods, some I didn't like so I disabled them. No problem at all. There is nothing wrong with playing as DLC's are released, or picking up on your last save a month or two after you stopped playing. Learn how the game works before complaining about problems that aren't problems at all. Edit: Also I absolutely dislike the presence of "Aliens." They have no place in this game. This is not about 'Aliens' or 'UFOs' at all. B-but muh alien blaster. Now, a larger threat of mutants or feral ghouls, that is a cool idea. dragonslayer2k12
Aliens goes along with the whole 50s them blame beth for it. Want an example of things getting screwed up enough to warrant a restart? Look at what happened recently with the settler bug that caused all settlers to mess up really bad. I don't play the game so I can go shoot some bugged settlers for how many real life hours? There are a bunch of other bugs too just this one is really bad lately. Tools often screw things up because by the time I need to use something like face ripper, the game would have been updated again so would it still work? who knows until after the next update. This game is not stable sometimes and I have a feeling the fix they don't mention for cell reset will come back to bite us all in the ass later because they will have to change it again just to get it to work with whatever they do in the next few updates. It's called "banter" ;-) It's a great game and I know how it works just fine. Also, I never said my playthroughs got broken. However, if i come across a great new mod that changes a major aspect of the game, for the sake of consistency, I prefer to start over. No big deal. I (fortunately) never experienced settler bug. As I understand, it resets their inventory to default, which does not seem that bad. Now.... what REALLY bothers me is the sound bug, when a settler or companion uses a workbench, and is stuck with that looping noise. I used to send my settlers to abandoned Red Rocket stop and shoot them in the head to silence the sewing machine noise. Now I (think) I have fixed it by making a mod to block them from using the workbenches. Face Ripper would work no matter how many updates were released. It modifies the data encoded in your save file relating to your face. As standard operating procedure, software developers design patches to be retro-compatible. So any potential changes to the data encoding of your character's face are fine. Cell Reset bug has been fixed and is no longer a problem. Keywords aren't either. Don't worry about it. If you have some kind of obnoxious bug that causes the game to crash constantly, I had this too, and this is how I fixed it.The problem was caused by a texture I manually placed into the /Data/Textures/ directory. Uninstall your mods, and go through each asset folder, removing anything that is left behind.

B-but muh alien blaster. Now, a larger threat of mutants or feral ghouls, that is a cool idea. Heh, well aliens are already in FO4 as well as making an appearance in FO3 (not sure about FONV). And the whole 50's retro futuristic theme revolves around the alien craze that took place in the 50's (probably after the Roswell crash in the late 40's). Not trying to destroy your wasteland fantasies with my suggestion, I was just trying to provide an example to the OP on how to make his/her idea work better in a sandbox game. dragonslayer2k12
Remember patch 1.5 and the changes to actor faces it made? Remember the diamond city guard helmets being replaced by a leather cap and a generic male face? We won't know what kind of dramatic changes they will have to make until the update comes out and it is a real tooth and nail fight with steam to delay updates of any kind. There is nothing wrong with complaining as everyone does it sooner or later.
mkborgelt13
I'll give you that, steam auto-updates are obnoxious. I have disabled them and have not yet upgraded to patch 1.5. Yeah I know. it just seems like there is so much griping on these forums. Maybe Bethesda needs to use a better QA environment before releasing patches. dragonslayer2k12
Well v169 fixed the face problem with the dc guard helm but there are other bugs like even though I didn't get close enough to trigger kid in a fridge quest the two named npcs with unique weapons in quincy don't drop their unique weapons anymore clint and tessa. You can set steam to not update F4 but you can't set steam to not update itself and when steam updates itself it also tries to update everything else.
