Monometric
First post so hi to all! I think the OP is both right and wrong. The fixes are far from perfect but i think they certainly help.I've played this game for 50+ hours and most of the time the game produces a gray, colorless image. After a playing session, when i look around everything glows with color because my eyes were seeing gray for so long. There are hardly any contrasts in the picture and everything sits there around mid grey for most of the time. That is something that i would absolutely not expect to be there at all with a HDR engine as HDR takes a section of a much bigger light space with a clipped white and black. The desaturation is done wrongly in that it doesn't follow human vision. Dark areas severely lack color. It may be that they disregarded the difference between TV gamma and monitor gamma and just made all their artwork for tv standard. I wouldn't be surprised because this is often overlooked and is pretty much a nonexistent thing for most people.I was actually looking for a gamma correction filter when i came across this thread. :) Meanwhile the injection fix does help in at least framing the levels to better values (i.e. using more of the available luminance for crying out loud) but it took me some time to understand the parameters and tweak accordingly. It has a gamma parameter and it is helping. It is not perfect, it is just better than what the game does by default.I now have a much better contrast between dark backgrounds and shiny objects, for instance.Everything in general is not looking so hazy and bleak anymore which makes the game look less depressing which is good for a game with 100+ hours of gameplay. And that's besides the game looking better.
MrManNo1
Wait? Someone has a different opinion of what they want their game to look like? HOW DARE THEY! Burn then at the post! It's clearly the only logical solution!
WarKirby3333
big props for referencing the loudness war. inflation of standards and loss of dynamic range is a big annoyance of mine i think skyrim feels right mostly, but i've not tried this mod yet. i might do. JimboUK
I love the 3 easy steps of arguing against a correct position:1. Pretend you didn't see the OP's post and just refute his title and claim your opinion is the only correct opinion.2. Grab any faulty evidence to back up your point3. When that has been refuted, ignore the refutation and insist that everything is Just a matter of opinion. The next step, will of course be I refute your claim that this is in fact a matter of opinion, and you stop replying out of shame. so let's begin. in the lower picture the guy in the background is the correct colour as are the treesMay I ask you, what is the correct color? I can even see the guy in the background, I can't even see what he's wearing. Why don't you tell me what he's wearing, I pull out its texture, and we can compare which image is in fact the correct color? All I can say now is that I don't remember no blue armor. And then you said that the trees are the correct color on the lower image, But the trunks of the trees on the bottom image is dark blue, and I don't think any type of tree has a blue trunk, so that can't be more correct either. the top image is monochromeWell then why don't we take a look at the saturation map of your two images?http://i.imgur.com/T6VAe.jpgHere it is, cyan is least saturated and red is most saturated. One thing you're right on, yes the lower image is more saturated overall, but there is a serious problem. Where is your FXAA thing saturating that image? It's saturating the snow on the ground, and the snow on top of trees. Take a look at the actual tree leaves and the characters, very little change. So it's not actually doing what you said it does, which is make characters more realistic. Instead, it's mostly making snow less realistic by coloring them blue. And if you look at the blue and green channel, and can also be seen a bit here, the effect introduces a vertical line artifact into your image. So even if it did make the characters a bit more realistic, which I already refuted earlier, but even if it did. It still made a lot more mess by over saturating snow with blue. Therefore the upper image is better looking. Good job my game doesn't look like that then, seriously everyone has eyes in their head and will know what looks better to them. Sticking someones screenshots through an editing program before declaring them wrong is comical, thanks for the laugh. The fact remains that the top image is completely devoid of colour in the background, that is not realistic and no amount messing around with images will change that. At the moment we're stuck with choices between two things that aren't right, that means it's down to personal preference.
