threefoldmind
So... as per the title I HATE NERD RAGE. Not mechanically speaking, mechanically speaking it is AWESOME! Makes for a very high octane feeling play through where I can run and gun and go into bullet time while smashing my way through the wasteland leaving a path of destruction in my wake...But thats the problem... that not very intelligence-y. Like I can see it for perception, or endurance, or agility, but... Intelligence? I mean cmon that is lame. I was hoping for something more thematic for my int 10 character. Like Legendary stuff crafting, or maybe some sort of exp boost, or maybe something that feels Smart. Instead of being left feeling like a genius the character becomes the Hulk and that is not the Epitome of genius and its hard to validate why in the wastes they would do that. ArekkusuStorm
Well... it could very much be just a perk that is just a reference to the Hulk/Banner. I mean, Dr Banner is supposed to be one of the greatest scientist and one of his field of speciality is nuclear physics so naturally if they (Betheda) wanted to make a perk for the Hulk, would it not be a 10 int one? threefoldmind
Yeah but thats not really fallout like or genius like. I mean were they really that pressed for ideas?
RS13
I feel like a lot of the perks are that way. The guns perks seem to be placed at random. Pistols and assault rifles are agility skills, but rifles are perception skills? Similarly, sneaking is about agility, but picking pockets is about perception? Energy resistance is a perception perk? Armorer is a strength perk? And VATS perks are all over the place.
jjb54
Actually, I have had some friends who had family members in the military. When they were injured, and thankfully not fatal, they did state that they became clearer thinking, " felt smarter " one stated, " .. for some strange reason .. " The doctor went into some ' medical chemical reaction ' dialog, which went " over their head " and understandably so. But apparently there is a cause/effect to this. mkborgelt13
The 'Nerd Rage' perk was in Fo3, and I think when they brought it over, they stuck it under intelligence because, you know... thematically it kind of fits. But I agree the distrubution of the perks makes no sense and is annoying. Kind of wish they'd kept SPECIAL and the perks separate like before. jjb54 is correct. When under severe stress or injury, large amount of adrenalin and stimulating chemicals are released into the blood. This is an evolutionary advangate, the neurotransmitters released in times of trouble help you make quick decisions and carry them out, which could save your life. Basically your body is making itself work better and think faster, so it can save its own life.Blood loss can also cause a change in consciousness and thinking, but this is bad, oxygen is not carried efficiently throughout the blood and you begin to feel the effects. threefoldmind
See I think "Nerd Rage" or the slow time effect perk should have been Endurance or Perception because that reaction is a panic response, not an intelligence response. I don't know what would have gone better in its place, but Nerd Rage seemed like such a weird pick.I assume its there to make a pure intelligence build combat viable, but int is where all of your craft perks (save for Blacksmith, Armorer and Dem Expert) are. KarthGalin
While I agree that some perks are in odd places, others are bloody worthless, and I think dumbing-down the stats/skills/perks system is a step backwards, Nerd Rage being under Intelligence seems to fit in my personal, real-life experience. People I have been able to witness in emergency situations react with respect to their training or lack thereof. In perfectly avoidable car accidents, folks that aren't geeky enough to know anything about the physics of automobiles freak out and hit stuff - the nerdy types find an 'out' from the situation. Likewise with other accidents and nasty situations that I've seen. Those who are intelligent/curious/nerdy, in that moment where the brain either goes into overdrive or locks up, tend towards going into overdrive. All the more so because the 'nerdy' type tends to hold back a bit most of the time. I will say that I don't think it belongs at 10 intelligence other than possibly for balance purposes in the unmodified game on higher difficulties.
