Website nearly fragged my PC

About 45 minutes ago I logged into Fallout new Vegas Nexus and attempted to start downloading mods. I was unable to get the downloads to start, receiving the message no application set to handle links. I went to my mod organizer and re-clicked handle nexus links. About that point my PC completely froze forcing me to do a hard reset.

When my PC restarted I attempted to download the mods again. This time I had my task manager open and noticed that when I clicked on a download link my processes started to slow down and upon looking saw hundreds on "NXM Proxy Links" in my background processes, and they were replicating even more.

I was forced to hard reset my PC yet again.

I have been using Nexus mods for years and I have never had this issue or anything similar ever happen before.

Hopefully someone can let me know what the heck happened and how to fix/prevent it.

Have you contacted Mod Organizer? Most mods cannot be downloaded while a game is running.

Again I don't see what MO has to do with this. It wasn't even running the second time. The download link never even called it forward.

I will cover my bases and go ahead and inquire over at MO though.

I also know that you shouldn't download mods while in game. Luckily I wasn't in game.
