pageofrage1996
Hello, first post on the site and I'm asking for some help from the community. I know EVERYONE for the most part does or has used LOOT in some capacity and I need some assistance. My new computer (MSI Nightblade X2B) I bought has it's main drive separated into two drives. C: which holds the Windows 10 installation and has no room for much else beyond that, and the other drive is where I installed Skyrim. This is the first time I've installed Skyrim outside of the C: drive except for when I used to keep it on an External. I have it all rigged up and running but LOOT cannot find my Skyrim installation, meaning I can't sort my load order out. UNLESS I do it entirely by hand that is (and with the amount of mods I run that's simply far too impractical to be possible).I have a decent amount of knowledge about Skyrim modding, the use of LOOT, etc. and an above average knowledge of Windows systems but for the life of me I cannot get LOOT to find my Skyrim installation. It's really infuriating because I haven't had a PC capable of playing Skyrim in over a year and I just want to play some modded Skyrim and to really test this PC's limitations with it, but I can't because of this LOOT issue. So Nexus community, I reach out to you for help. How can I force LOOT to discover my Skyrim installation?
redrakiton125
Do you use any Mod manager? If not maybe use Mor organizer and add Loot manually from github. Also clean your masters with TES5edit. JWMcQuire
Hello, first post on the site and I'm asking for some help from the community. So Nexus community, I reach out to you for help. How can I force LOOT to discover my Skyrim installation? On the row for Skyrim under the heading "Install Path", click and type the location of your Skyrim install. For example if you installed Skyrim on your D: drive, then you want to type, D:\Skyrim\ so Loot will know to find it there.
pageofrage1996
So I tried JWMcQuire's fix and it didn't solve the issue. By the end i had to manually go into the settings.yami file in the Local AppData for LOOT and force the install path there, and set the last played game as Skyrim (since it couldn't detect that I ever played it). Then it picked up. Problem resolved. As for Mod Managers I use Nexus redrakiton125
JWMcQuire
Sorry, my suggestion didn't work. I will eventually be moving everything to my desktop where I'll be installing on a different HD instead of the c: drive. Maybe then, I'll be able to see how to set up Loot for that without editing any files. :-)
Lisnpuppy
I've had this happen before. Have you started Skyrim once with the Steam launcher? You don't have to hit play, just get the launcher up. I can't promise but it helped with me using Loot and Boss before. Good luck on whatever works!
skyquest32
I want to give a pro tip here, every time you check the integrity of the files under property's, with steam and it restores files, until you launch the game again the tools all treat it as an invalid copy, skyrim has to re detect your setting and boom, they know its valid again. I don't have to tell some of you guys how upsetting this is when you don't know it at first, if you regular check for missing files, after messing with mods. Its something they should look into. I would say a bug or incompatibility on the tool makers end.
