oblivion crashing when leaving/entering buildings/cities, crashing intermittently

Hi guys, I need some help with a pretty major issue i'm having in Oblivion. Might be due to lack of experience, I might have completely butchered my game.

 

I haven't played in 5 years and I installed it recently and installed a lot of mods, some big ones, a lot of small, simple ones. It will work fine when going through a dungeon, I would experience 0 CTDs, however, whenever I fast travel here and there, enter a building, cave, fort etc, the game would crash to desktop in the loading screen. This would result in me constantly reevaluating my load order, then I gave up on that and I installed BOSS, would rearrange my load order using that, then rebuilding my bashed patch using wrye bash, then maybe, MAYBE I can enter a new cell without experiencing a CTD.

 

Today, I installed LOOT, found that there were dirty edits with a few mods, followed the tes4edit cleaning guide to clean the esp files, then ran LOOT again, the esps were no longer dirty, used LOOT to change my load order, rebuilt the bash patch.

It is also worth mentioning that I have patched my oblivion.exe with the 4gb patch.

It still crashes randomly when running through Cheydinhal or when trying to enter or an Inn. I have reinstalled Oblivion 3 times prior with having deleted the Oblivion folder from my O: drive and also the saves folder along with oblivion.ini.

Was hoping someone could point out something wrong with my load order or offer some suggestions as to what else to do.

This has been a massive time waster so far and was hoping I wouldn't have to do a clean install, but I will if I absolutely have to.

LOOT isn't the recommended load order sorter for Oblivion ... you were right the first time with BOSS (BOSS also reports cleaning recommendations when you run it from the desktop shortcut).

 

You could also try turning off all autosaves in Oblivion.ini ... use the save from the Esc menu and never use quicksave, it's a known corrupter of saves.

Thank you for your suggestions Striker879, I ran BOSS, rebuilt my patch, disabled autosaves. Unfortunately, first door I go into... CTD :(

I suppose the issue comes from one of your wilderness-editing mods so you should disable them, play, check if the problem remains then re-enable them one by one.

The Combo "Unique Landscapes" + "Better Cities" gives a lot of stress to your system and to the game's engine : It makes your Oblivion to need a lot of RAM to load everything, especially near the cities and when you fast travel. So it can be a memory issue.

 

Did you use the 4GB patch ?

 

It can also be a problem with Oblivion Stutter Remover. Do you have it installed ?

 

I also advise you to install "MoreHeap"

Personally I have experienced problems such as this before when playing mods for oblivion. My suggestion would be to try uninstalling mods that are very large, such as environmental mods or script intensive mods, then uninstall smaller mods that you don't use very often. If you do this, test out your game to see if it works and if there are still as many crashes. I hope this helps you out.
