manmanman Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Okay, so today I saw an article about what Skyrim could learn from Zelda: Skyward Sword. So I decided to look up the reviews on IGN. Now I had already seen Skyrim's review and was disappointed at the pathetic excuse those crappy critics slumped together. And the ratings? Presentation: 9!?!?!?!What the hell. So I was already mad about that. Then I click on Zelda's review. Everything is a 10. Ok, your corrupt-ness is starting to show through IGN. But seriously, Graphics - 10. WTF!!?!?!?! The graphics on it are like those from friggin gamecube's Windwaker!Somebody really needs to expose IGN for who the really are:A bunch of pathetic game noobs that take bribes and write crap reviews to make themselves feel important.
Handofbane Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I think you will find IGN isn't nearly the behemoth be-all-end-all of review sites out there. Metacritic is a bit more reasonable, as it aggregates many of the review sites out there, as well as offers a chance for actual users to post their own reviews/ratings, so you can better see what the games are actually like, instead of just a short review based on a couple hours of play (assuming they even played it at all and didn't take a payoff to crank out high ratings to begin with).
Pronam Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I never take IGN's things for any value. I trust gamespy over them (same parent company even!) because they at least let you know when it's obvious they don't really mean something. IGN just gives bad ratings to games that don't fit their own tastes or didn't got enough incentives.
Tardivex Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I don't like IGN or any review sites out there, I do not care about reviews, I make my decision based of gameplay footage, but anyways... One thing that I noticed after researching reviews of Skyrim is that pretty much every single one of them says Skyrim got lot's of bugs and all that crap, even the Yogscast said it had a lot of bugs in an interview with Notch, and seriously? Bugs? I player like 200 f***ing hours of Skyrim and I haven't found ANY bug, and the reviews are all sayin "ohh flying mammoths, giants send you sky high with their attacks" and im like wtf, I've never found any bug that these reviews are talking about and I've got the game on release sooo... what's up with that? Secondly, the UI, I personally have some issues with the UI just because it is consolified and it sucks for PC users, and I even read reviews wich said "The UI is consolified wich means it makes it very simple for both consoles and PC" ... NOPE! I am not into reviews, but isn't 9/10 good? And 10/10 isn't perfect? Skyrim wasn't all that perfect to be honest because of MINOR issues and not bugs, and in this point I have to agree with Total Biscuit, some of this minor issues could be fixed and a proper UI for PC could be made if they didn't stick with that abisious release date, but wrapping all up, Skyrim is a great game, regardless of those minor issues and I'd give a 9/10 too to be honest...And now regarding to Zelda... It's a great game actually, and your graphics argument is kinda silly to be honest, I mean, Zelda SS combines the good graphics of Zelda TP and the graphical style from WW, wich is a pretty decent combination, and I have to also point out that the Wii doesn't have the same graphical capacities of a PS3 or XBox, and I'm pretty sure there will be a HD release of LoZ SS once the WiiU comes out because it's graphical capabilities will best both Xbox and PS3, and really, have you played a Zelda game? Or Skyward Sword, it is amazing! It really feels like a proper Zelda game, and you should actually PLAY the game before talking about graphics, let's take Battlefield 3 for instance, it's graphics are the best but I still prefer BBC2 or even the old Battlefield 2, because the campaign is sh**, and the multiplayer have all those silly unlocks, like ribbons, medals that sorta thing and even vehicle unlocks, wich are really silly I'd like to point out, so if you bought the game like 2 weeks after release, you probably gonna be useless with vehicles because people who bought it on release will have all the unlocks and you won't.Geez that was a long one, I love discussions like this and I would write even more but you probably stoped reading already lol
abaris Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 One should never take a review as gospel. Its not that they are corrupt, its much more subtle. Say, someone lets the reviewer know that a bad score for any given product would exclude them from the invitation list of the next preview.
RejectedCamel Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 IGN do reviews, previews, editorials, and all sorts of stuff. It's their opinion. I personally haven't played any Zelda games as I tend to hate all of Nintendo's stuff, including games and consoles (except the N64, of course). Zelda, however, does have a consistent art style, and whilst it may be pretty ugly quality-wise compared to Skyrim, they can't really squeeze much more out of the Wii, so it probably does deserve either a 9 or 10, at least as far as I can tell. Remember though - critics are simply giving their opinion, you can't always agree with everyone.
Scorpio9 Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) I've noticed a while (year) ago that IGN reviews suck, so I don't remember when was last time I opened their site. Edited November 29, 2011 by Scorpio9
kitsuneshoujo Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 The problem RejectedCamel is that some reviewers are dishonest and will take bribes or just give bad scores to something if they were offended in some manner - such as not getting invited to a beta test. They are only human after all, however they have a position that is generally well-respected and is thought to be trust-worthy. So they are abusing this trust when they intentionally give a bad score to something. Especially so since a lot of people are too stupid/lazy to think for themselves and just blindly trust reviewers.
darkprecurser Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 I never listen to any reviews, if the game appeals too me, I buy it simple as 1.2.3 tho, I can understand your frustration clearly this game isn't getting the attention it should be getting (luckely its still getting a lot) however, anyone can know that a Bethesda game is amazing, it comes with its flaws in the beginning I agree but overall its simply an astonishing game. so I'd like people to pay less attention too IGN etc they just review out of their own or their pockets perspective. see for yourself peeps ;3
aguliondew Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 g4tv is the main site I go for game reviews. I like the hear about the up and down side to game though. So of the cons about a game can be deal breakers when it comes to me buying a game. So far the amount of content in skyrim has made up for the negative reviews I have read about it.
