Skyrim 1.2 Anyone having this -particular- issue??

So much to everyone dismay who got the new game breaking Skyrim patch, and have been bringing in all kinds of reports about it from damage resistances and armor rating being zero and such, no one has reported this particular issue, and that with the Xbox 360 USB controller. I dont know if I am the ONLY person to experience this but I the Action Button (Button A) has been completely disabled ONLY in the menu interfaces. Oddly it works just fine while ingame but when I pause to navigate my item screens, journal screens, skills menus and map menu the A Button has no response at all. But when I unpause and return to the game world, it works with no issue. I dont know if this is one of the 1.2 patch's many game breaking bugs or if this is something completely isolated. But the timing of this sudden game breaking bug coincides with the patch's release. So if anyone who uses the Xbox controller for Skyrim on PC has experienced this, or has a work around for it, please let me know. If at the least to give me peace of mind that I'm not the only person experiencing this. :)

Both my wife and me use a wired xbox 360 USB controller and neither of us are experiencing this problem. Probably not much help but it sounds like it's something specific to your setup.

EDIT: And we're both running on the new patch too.

I was googling away trying to find if I was the only person with this problem, thank god I'm not crazy. But yes, my wireless xbox 360 controller has stopped working on menus, but still works fine in game.

I previously remapped the 'Jump' and 'Action' button to A and Y respectively as it just felt weird pressing Y to jump. But now when I'm in menus I have to press Enter on my keyboard and A favourites things, meaning that where the 1.2 has "General functionality fixes related to remapping buttons and controls" it seems like something has gone funny. It would make sense if Y now worked as A did pre-remapping, but it doesn't as it doesn't do anything on the menus!

I've temporarily fixed mine by resetting the buttons to their default assignments, and A works again in menus.. it's just not ideal as I don't like having to use Y to jump. Today is the first time I've tried to play for the last few days, so can't get an exact time fix on when this problem cropped up, but it coincides with the patch all too well.

Have you had any success with yours?

Some stuff

Found another forum with exactly the same thread pretty much, seems to be people that are using xbox controller and have swapped the jump and action button. Poor effort from Bethesda for not testing this. Oh well, hopefully they'll fix it soon, but in the meantime it seems to be solved by playing with default controls.

Yes, I have the same problem... something really funky is happening when I had remapped the a and y buttons to switch the jump controls. I set it back to default but even then it's now no longer working as it should...

No success, but I did find a clever little work around, I have xpadder and I simply created a tiny profile that maps ENTER to my A button and now I can use A Button in my menus and it doesn't affect my jumping ability in game. So just goggle xpadder free download and try that method. Its quick and easy fix until Bethesda fixes this remapping issue. Good luck and happy Dragon Slaying :)

It just does not feel right to jump with Y, does it? I too swapped out the Y and A functions with each other and this problem really is quite annoying. I cannot even exit the menu or a convo with B like I used to. Edited by gunvar

I have the same problem, but with different buttons.

I'm fine with jumping with {Y}, so I left {A} and {Y} alone.

Instead, I made {X} my Character Screen and {B} Ready/Sheathe, which is the opposite of default.

According to default (and the screen, no matter what you change), {X} means STORE or TAKE ALL.

When in inventory or conversations, {B} means EXIT.

Since the patch, the screen still says {X} TAKE ALL, but if I press {X}, it exits.

{B} is now take all and {X} is how you exit a conversation.

THIS IS SO F'ING STUPID!!!

I was hoping someone smart would have found a settings file wherein we could simply re-map the controls.

I realize there is a window to do this in-game, but you cannot customize what-buttons-do-what while in menus and such.

You can only customize action controls.

To anyone saying they don't experience this glitch:

Everyone has the same problem since the patch.

You simply didn't realize it because you either use the default control scheme, or your personal setup doesn't conflict with the on-screen menu.

Try actually replicating what people are talking about before you dismiss them saying it's not a real bug, or it must be only their machine.

Example, try switching the controls for {X} and {B} in the game, then try using a cupboard with inventory in it.

-or, try as the OP suggested, switch {A} and {Y}, then see if your menu functions properly.

This is a real bug. Period.
