i haven't tried it yet but I'm asking if anyone else has. Is it possible to use the raider faction from Nuka World to get inside the Institute to start Institutionalized?

Of course I only see the typo on the title after I post it...

considering that N-World has new robot mods for the robot DLC

this would represent a major Bethesda "Bethesda Up"

(like the previous Fallout game that was issued on disk complete with a disk security bypass program on the same disk.)

I'd like this but I don't think the raiders would have the means or organization to breach the Institute... and would they even care...?

Unless you could convince them they'd get some free swag from pillaging the Institute egg-heads, I think they'd be content to keep on plundering and doing their thing.

Or put the ever-loving fear of the Overboss in them. Ah well... yet another awesome thing Bethesda could have done...but didn't.

captured railroad operative who couldn't bear raider interrogation techniques

convinces them to raid and capture Unicorn and/or P.A.M.

build empire from there

Altering the main quest retroactively would be way too much work and not worth it. If raiders were to be a MQ faction, the only reasonable thing would have been to include them in the first place.

They'd have to call in all the voice actors again, and get them to record new lines. Think Nick Valentine's lines in vanilla versus Far Harbor, no thanks.

Honestly I would find it more believable that they could scrap together the resources and technical know how(at gunpoint) than the random mechanic you picked up in Concord figuring it all out.

As for caring, they're raiders I imagine they could find something to steal, kill or rape inside.

I don't think they'd necessarily mean all THAT much of a redo, though. They could just reuse the Minutemen way in, and use Shank as the guy you give the tape to. He's the raiders' spymaster when it comes to the Commonwealth anyway, so he's actually the guy I'd expect the most to find a guy who knows a guy who can find a way in.

Then just spawn two raiders from each of the two NW factions left for the assault troop, so a total of 4 who act just like the minutemen there, and there you go. And they already have the mechanics in the game to spawn a raider assault gang anyway. It just needs a few more lines for Shank and a couple for the raiders, and there we go.

Or, hell, they can even basically reuse the BOS entrance (seein' as Gage thinks they're not that different from raiders;)), except have them build a big frikken improvised shaped charge out of a few mini-nukes and the beryllium booster to blast their way down. I figure, blowing <bleep!> up would be a raider specialty, right?

And yeah, promising to let them keep anything they can lay their hands on inside should make most raiders care.

I agree, I don't think it would have taken that much to patch it in. Besides, if you side with the raiders you make enemies of all the other factions save the institute, so you're essentially stuck with the institute ending which is lame. It's not like the endings were all that elaborate or different. Why can't we have a raider ending?
