gmg2dave
Just recently updated to windows 10 and now my game will not start. As soon as I hit play, I get a black screen and then back to desktop. Tried doing a google search and have tried turning off my anti-virus, re-installing both steam and the game, opening in windowed mode, turning off all my mods, and nothing. I've checked to make sure I am not missing any master files in FO4Edit and in NMM and am seeing no conflicts. Sorted my mods with LOOT and still the game won't start. At the end of my rope here, I have no idea how to fix this, what is causing it to crash in the first place and am getting pretty frustrated with this game not working. So, anyone got any ideas for what could be the culprit, or how to get the silly thing to launch?
hard8
Do you look into seeing about using the correct directx for the game? try updating directx Windows 10 uses directx 10, 11 and even 12, just look for the current version of directx for windows 10 and stay away from beta in less your comfortable doing so!... gmg2dave
First, thanks for the reply. But I tried it and it didn't work. Still get CTD right after hitting play in the launcher. Edited September 5, 2016 by gmg2dave
JimmyRJump
Check Windows' Event Manager and also have a look if something's keeping the game from starting, like the anti-virus/firewall that comes with Windows (or your own AV software, for that matter)... cossayos
It runs as well as it did under win 7 in my case. Have you tried verifying game cache under steam? Assuming you are on steam. That should be the first step when the game refuses to launch. Windows ten can't be the issue here. Maybe some conflict, but it's hard to lay hands on that. I'm nota computer guru either, but when it says application error, run game verification and let it do what it does. See if that fixes the issue. JimmyRJump
Event ID: 1000 is Windows Explorer crashing. It is caused by files that gotten corrupted during/because of the upgrade to Win10. Perform a sfc/scan now. Look here for how to go about things...
