The first is used against ragers, and the latter is used against the "everybody hates Skyrim!" topics. They might be very, say, trollish, but server their purpose. "This is not Morrowind!" simply does not serve any purpose other than taunting us, who never liked Morrowind. It is not a good argument. It is not a good reason. It really is the worst trolling comment I can think of, exept "umadbro?!".

True, if that's the only argument. Morrowind was groundbreaking at its time. It certainly isn't anymore.

But there's a deeper meaning to that. Bethesda made up something groundbreaking in 2002, they let out in 2006 - at least in my opinion - since Oblivion failed to deliver. And then there's the fact, they published the fallout series, although they didn't develop it. I didn't even like the setting of the series, but trying it out I was amazed on how dynamic the world reacted to my decisions and actions.

That's what I would have expected from Skyrim. Not a second Morrowind, but certainly not a second Morrowind or Oblivion when it comes to the AI not reacting to what you have done in the world. What's more, the show they can do it, as the countless examples in the "funniest immersive moments" proves. They just don't do it with the big stuff, when it really comes to the feeling of achievement and immersion.

Personally I couldn't give a rats about lost stats, but I give a whole lot about lost or never implemented roleplaying options. And that's why I say its a good and enjoyable game, but taking a leaf out of the fallout series it could have been an excellent game.

Actually they developed FO3 and published FONV.

I agree. They do slack at certain places, and should have waited a few more months before releasing. It wouldn't hurt anybody, and we would perhaps have a slightly more polished game. THis can be fixed with mods, though. That limits the PS3 and XBOX uses harsh though, which isn't good.

One thing I want to put pressure on here, the word "Expectations". Morrowind was the first of its kind. It was amazing at the time! Now, however, the concept of open world RPG is not new. What people don't pay attention too, is the models. In Morrowind they didn't, or barely did, use Normal maps. In Oblivion they used slightly good Normal maps, but not really detailed. Mostly directly from Photoshop. In SKyrim, however, they have used a sculpting software. This greatly lengthen the time of a model, but gives it a lot better qualities. This is a bump up from Oblivion!

BUT, it is not what people "expected" to get as an upgrade. They wanted better animations ( which I think we did get), better AI and better quests.

It´s your opinion and I respect it. But in my opinion Skyrim is awesome! The patch 1.2 is ennoying but many bugs of it will fixed this or next week and there will be regular updates for pc from january. You can read it here: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/02/skyrim-update-next-week-patches-will-be-hitting-the-pc-and-steam-more-often/?ns_campaign=article-feed&ns_mchannel=ref&ns_source=steam&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0

But back to the topic: Bethesda DOES care what their fans say. But only what their FANS say. Not what the people say who don´t like them (anymore). And as far as I can see, they prove it in skyrim. They support mods, got rid of the stupid ragollphysics, enabled marriage functions, increased blood and violence (bad for younger guys, but good for us), made skyrim playable on not-so-awesome pcs (I was afraid they did but skyrim works perfectly on high quality on my pc), the graphics are nice, the women aren´t as ugly as in Oblivion. Now many women look really beautifull! They made a nice story and epic battles. Playing it is damn fun and I could even tell you more good things but they´re just too many. Quitting a game because the first patch adds a few bugs is stupid in my opinion.

The only tip I can give to you: Play the games you like. If you don´t like Skyrim, try to sell it (well I don´t know if it´s possible because of steam). But I recommend: Wait for the coming patch(es)!

Greetings Carimya

The UI is more than a matter of isolated opinion on Nexus

If a thousand people don't like my car, it is still opinions.

If a million people hate chicken, it is still opinions.

If 95% of the world hate me, it is still opinions.

If everybody exept me hates it, it is still a big pile of opinions.

Everybody can have a different one, and it is never a good argument.

Most people I've ever heard of hates to wake up early in the morning to go to work. A few people likes it. Then why do we still wake up early, when people rather be home at night hanging out with friends, than waking up early?

The UI will be changed by mods. The bugs in the UI will be changed with Bethesda. If it is proven the UI is harsh on people with problems with their hand, there will be a UI fix or a UI-change download from Bethesda.

Saying you dont like it, or me saying I do like it, changes very little.

Opinions can make mods happen. Facts can make official patches happen. It is a fact X quest is bugged. It is not a fact Y quest is boring.

And about the picture/link: People don't like the big 3d viewer. I love the big 3d viewer. I do 3d as a hobby, and love seing how they have handled certain parts. If you do not care about it, since you want to RP, then I see your problem. However, neither is right or wrong.

I hope I managed to say that without sounding unbelieveable rude, or totally confusing!

Cheers,

Matth

Yeah sure. They did a lot of things. And many of them are pleasant surprises. But in my book the diference between an action game and a RPG is the feeling of becoming a hero - or villain - and people noticing it.

That was always a big letdown with Elder scroll games. If you're the Thane of a certain region and a wayward guard gives you the lollygagging its not furthering the hero feeling. If you're making the ranks in the legion and at the end people still go on about how Ulfric will change the world, its not what I call immersion.

So my decision is to avoid the main guild quests. That way there aren't at least the immersion breakers thrown at me. There's also the open world vs open ended argument. Open world is good, but open ended isn't such a thrill. When I beat the main quest, why on earth would my hero of the world character start out in some lowly guild and work the ranks? There doesn't have to be a time limit, but I'm thinking again about Fallout New Vegas where the game lets you know, if you walk the path to the final confrontation, this is it. Take all the time you need, but that's the point of no return.

Wow.

Uhm....

Im not feeling the love here guys.

Skyrim was not that bad. Name one other game company that produces open-ended games in this market.....

Sure, some thinga about Morrowind were better, and some things about Skyrim were better. I, for one, do not like the fact that I can no longer wield a blade and block and cast a spell in the othr hand (like Oblivion) but I applaud their attempt at realism by forcing you to equip spells - no more wielding a shield and sword and casting with the magic third hand.... GOOD. Anyway - Im sure a mod will come out for blocking and casting for us Spellswords or (the more appropriate term) Bladesingers out there.

Over all, I liked Skyrim just as much as Oblivion but not as much as Morrowind. But I've replayed Morrowind too much and Skyrim is a welcome breath of fresh air.

abaris I agree with you 100%

I avoid the main quest completion until everything else is done. Did the same in Oblivion, even there after I saved the world why would I need to kill some guy or steal something?

On my 3rd restart (yes I hated my short Breton after the first run got 20 levels in ) am now at level 20 and only did bleak falls burrow and NONE of the civil war main quests to this point.

As far as opinions go, that is the beauty of message boards, I run a college sports chat forum, everyone has valid views and I enjoy reading them. We can all agree to disagree
