PS4 not getting mods

PS4 Mod Update

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.

mods please delete this if has been discussed or is front page news here

Knew that was going to be the case, and it makes me believe that since Oblivion came out where getting SI to the PS3 was difficult, that it was Sony all the long, and not because of MS favoritism like I Initially believed. They had a hard time with Skyrim for the PS3 too :/.

Basically, Sony probably wants total control over the mods, which goes against Beth's intentions for it.

I'm honestly surprised that there are so many console players interested in mods, I would have figured that this many generations of consoles would have programmed them into finding that an entirely alien concept.

And if they actually are and can't have both their console and a PC they should stop paying for the consoles that are going to cost them more over the long term with new generations and now subscriptions fees and build their own computer. Even if Sony was open to it it's still a entirely reduced experience from running mods on a PC.

(and yes I do own a PS4, I would never dream of playing a game like Fallout or the Elder Scrolls on it though)

The thing I find incredulous is that people are actually surprised by this announcement. The writing has been on the wall for months.

We here all know (or at least should know by now) that game mods are nothing more than User Created Content, Enhancements or Patches (hereafter referred to as UCCEP) and they install and activate exactly like Bethesda's DLC. So the support for installing and activating UCCEP on the PS4 has been in place since day one. What has not been available is the UCCEP themselves and the ability to download them and put them into the activation list, and that is the missing piece which will not be implemented.

And the reasons for this are well known. Sony is scared shitless (bordering on paranoia) that someone will hack their box via UCCEP . Sony has piled restriction upon restriction in an effort to get some mythical guarantee that no UCCEP will ever get past the PS4 systems security.

As if someone couldn't do that on their own anyways, and then post the instructions on the net, yeah, smart move on Sony's part, really keeping someone from getting past the PS4 systems security..

It's Sony. Why should anybody be surprised that they're not exactly customer friendly? The writings been on the wall since the 90ies, when they sold their music with very intrusive DRM restrictions. The only thing surprising me is people buying pieces of hardware they're never fully in charge of. The manufacturer is always in charge when it comes to what the customer ís allowed to run on their platform.

From what I understand Fallout 4 sold more copies on the PS4 than the PC and XBONE versions combined. This is also going to effect the Skyrim remaster coming on October. Sony recently made a statement about doing things to keep people from going to PC, looks like they are doing a pretty horrible job at that.

Corporate greed/control reigns supreme until the competition kicks you in the nut sack.
