documn
I'm thinking about making a no-combat character, but who will help his follower in every other way possible - craft armor/weapons, buy gear, enchant, make potions, heal, etc. I don't really want to use any magic except maybe restoration. Anybody try this sort of character yet? Any tips or pitfalls to avoid? One thing I'm kinda concered about is potions. Do followers use potions when appropriate at all? sarnz
Sounds like an interesting way of playing, but there are so many things that can one shot you I doubt I'd do it
darkjedi73200
This sounds interesting to try out, but I think the Enemy AI will quickly dissapoint you. I use Healing Hands on my NPC friends all the time when I can. What I find is that the enemy agros healing more then they do DPS. So in turn your companion may kill 1 or 2 people while you are supporting. However you would still need to play lots of CC and support to get throught he most simple fights. The issue is that you can't give your companions orders like. - Guard Me at all times- Attack on sight- Pure Defesive- Supportive ( will eat potions you give her and such ) Right now as it is, I don't doubt it could be done. I do doubt you would have much fun after a couple of hours. If you do this, please post a response about how it whent.
BarefootWarrior
I have a follower / companion and I find it quite interesting. I just wish we could give them commands like 'Stay behind me!'...LOL. Oddly, unlike Lydia, he seems to have learned my fight style and for the most part, will stay out of line of fire...most of the time. Lydia is one tough lady, but she was always getting in my way and I don't know how many times I shot her with my bow or blaster her with a shout. I think if we had the feature of issuing some basic commands would be a nice feature. nitevision92
Their only purpose for me currently is keeping my back clear when going against mobs. Their AI doesn't really let them do anything more complex than that, sadly. I once had a Falmer try to shoot me with an arrow from 100 feet below in one of the insanely big Dwemer ruins. My follower jumped all the way down to kill it and survived somehow. So I guess it's pretty easy for your fighting follower to run after a caster/archer (since they tend to shoot first) and leave you alone against a mob of melee bruisers. Not good. Things get even worse when dungeon crawling. There was this swinging-axe trap I had to disable on the other end of a passage way, so I asked my follower to wait while I used Wuld to get to the switch- and ran into a Draugr waiting round the corner. Trying to "help", he ran right into the swinging axes and was bashed into the wall. And yes, I agree that the ability to issue more commands and set Rules of Engagement would be great. Nekrafilia
Followers are convenient speed bumps allowing you the time to get some breathing space (i.e. recover mana/hp swap spells, move out of the way) while maybe taking the mob down a little. To be sure you will die when more than one mob comes after you if you don't intend doing anything other than being passive. Also, some missions don't allow any followers in them so not sure what you're going to do then.

Do followers use potions when appropriate at all? making a noncombat character impossible unless there is some kind of magic. potions they don't use any just fall down and lets their health regen. then they get back up. armor they are given something enchanted or upgraded they might equip it or replace it over time, random. be like having a wolf vs 3 bandits i would say. killing would be easy x3 harder and they do not scale to you just levels only !!!! Ftumch
An interesting idea but I doubt it would work with most mobs of 2 or more. I've tested out potions too and they don't use them, tried health, mana, poisons and buffs. My first play through I got sick of the companions, i felt like I was working as a carer on an outing with a retarded patient. I killed 5 of them in the end they annoyed me so much and took great enjoyment into baiting them into every trap i could find. I had some real LOLs watching them get smashed in the face by those swinging logs or punctured by those massive spikey gates......if you see a trapped chest and can't be bothered to disarm the trap......"oh Lydia, come over here sweetheart and open this (ticking) chest for me". "Oh dear, now you're on fire (again), what a pity". Thats all they are good for, that and being mules. Edited December 4, 2011 by Ftumch
agno
lol, make a total slacker build, where your winning the game at lvl 1 or 2 because you got speechcraft or a quest skill reward orsomething. try to win at lvl 1. because you fail to lvl skills at all possible points and simply use opportunistic tactics to see toit by one means or another that targets of necessity die without you having gained any skills. to complete the game at lvl 1 2 or 3 would require spectacular skill and patience. anyone got the ballz to slackoff that hard?
