Standing Stones

i usually go a Breton and head over to the Lord stone. even if i'm a warrior. The combined 50% magical resistance and 50pts damage reduction is worth it reguardless of the slight costs.

The skill-boost stones make both us and enemies level faster, so it just makes the game shorter, technically with no impact on gameplay. I lean towards stones that improve combat:

Warrior: Lord Stone for +50 armor and 25% magic resistance.

Mage: Atronach stone for magic absorbtion.

Thief: Steed stone for carry capacity and reduced armor weight (affects detection)

For my Fighting Orc character, I took the Steed Stone until I had amassed so much money that I no longer needed the extra 100 carry points. Then I switched to the Lord Stone. Both were very helpful.

My current Mage Character is using the Atronach Stone. I like having lots and lots of Magicka.
