Getting kicked out of workshop mode

I've read quite a lot of posts on mod pages and these forums of people getting kicked out of the workshop mode for no apparent reason and it seems most of these posts are related to mods that "flatten" the area, alter the terrain, or expand the settlement borders.

I've been making my own expanded borders mod and happened to notice just by sheer luck that apparently when Bethesda adds the WorkshopBuildArea box they just drop it on the surface in mostly flat settlements and in non-flat settlements they barely extend it underground.

I just happened to notice as I was expanding Ten Pines Bluff over the cliff edge a little I saw the bottom corner of the BuildArea box, and it was barely under the ground of the normal Ten Pines area. I only saw it cause I use the CK with lights off and my view was more horizontal than top down, using top down view you would probably never notice it. And the perimeter border is the only indication that it's not "below ground".

This makes me wonder that maybe some of these peoples "workshop disengaging" problems may be caused by the WorkshopBuildArea box not being adjusted for flattened ground, new terrains, border sizes, etc., in essence, they may be going "below" the workshop area thus getting kicked out. I myself had not thought about "extending down" while I was extending "up & out", I do now, lol.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion of something to check if you're having this problem, before you start ripping out mods and your hair. :wink:

An interesting observation. In the settlements where it happens, it always occurs in the same spot, as if crossing an imaginary/invisible line. On the other hand, I have been using TCL a lot to scrap bushes from underneath because some of them don't light-up for scrapping when above ground. Even in flat terrain settlements (Finch Farm, County Crossing) I've thus far never been kicked out of the Workshop when going down under, but do get the boot above ground...

@Jimmy

I remember you saying you use Build High, It's possible that MA took this into consideration and extended down too, while some of us overlooked it.

I'm probably wrong but I thought I'd share my findings in case it helps anybody. ;)

BTW, I recently read your game troubles, sorry to hear that :( Last week something happened to mine and all my saves got corrupted, I'm now in the process of reinstalling everything lol. Oh well, almost a whole year of no problems so I can't complain. ;)
