Bailouts to the banks were closer to $16 trillion.

Do you think america is on a a path to 'recovery'? Do you think continuation of the policies that got us here in the first place is going to help, or hurt us? Do you think that "free trade" is going to be the savior of american manufacturing? Do you think more unfunded wars are going to further our cause? Do you think "corporations are people too" is going to cause washington to be more or less concerned about the 'average' american? Do you think trickle-down economics actually work? Are you looking forward to the war with Iran? How about borrowing money from china to give away to countries that hate us? Or paying our enemies so that our convoys can get thru, so that we can get the supplies we need to fight them. (and provide them with the money THEY need to fight US?) Is the economy improving? Is job creation keeping up with the number of new folks entering the workforce? How are your roads? How are staffing levels at your local police department? Fire department? How is school funding going? Property values? Have foreclosures slowed any? Remained the same? Increased?

I could go on for quite some time. The fact is, america is on a downward trend, and the last two administrations are the major contributors to that. The same policies that got us here are being perpetuated, and encouraged. And why is that? Easy. Money. The politicians do whatever promises to make them the most money, right now. THEIR future is secure. They couldn't care any less about the 'average' american. We don't count any more.

You are just, like, a walking encyclopedia of political angst, aren't you?

How's that working out for you?

EDIT: And you forgot that Indian uprising you predicted. Should be coming any day now, right?

Give me a reason NOT to be "The DoomSayer". :D I have seen this country go downhill for the last several decades. I see the direction things are going, and I DON'T care for it. I see the erosion of the middle class, giving up our rights in the name of "National Security". The government doing the bidding of corporate america. Basically, the death of the american dream. The separation between rich and poor growing ever wider. The rich getting richer at an accelerating rate, while the rest of the country gets a nice ride in the hand basket. The very people that were significantly responsible for putting us in this fix in the first place, being REWARDED for their behavior.

I DON'T see anything changing. I see BOTH major parties as contributors to the problem, neither one presenting solutions, aside from the ol' tried and failed policies of the past. The government keeps telling me 'things are getting better'..... trouble with that is, I am not entirely sure WHERE things are better, but, it sure as hades isn't around here.......

I don't recall predicting an Indian uprising.......

In all reality, I don't think americans as a group have the gumption to get together for ANY kind of uprising. The occupy movement is going to end up being just a flash in the pan. They are just too disorganized to make any difference. They may raise awareness for a while, but, nothing is going to change. The american people don't have the power any more. We are a nation of sheep, be led to the slaughterhouse.

Yeah, I have a real bright view of the future. :D

It doesn't reflect very well on you when you forget your own doomsday claims.

Problem becomes here, if [Karelia] IS returned, it sets a rather interesting precedent. Especially here in the states, as the Indian nations would IMMEDIATELY be pressing their claims to have their land returned to them.

Do you really believe that there are legions of angry natives waiting patiently for a land dispute in the armpit of Russia?

Yes

Ah, you pick an interesting interpretation there then. So far as I know, initiating legal action, doesn't fit the definition of "uprising". At least, not here in the states.

Yes

To be fair there are natives right now disputing land ownership, right the way from Chile to Canada.

They don't need any more excuses to be pissed off.

in all reality, they have legitimate gripes. Trouble is, conquest thru war has generally been an accepted way of expanding a nations borders since time immemorial. :D If there is ever a legal precedent set, that overthrows that particular little idiom, lawyer jobs are going to be in high demand. :D

It's not even like the US gov stopped out right breaking treaties with them in the 70s and 80s. It still happens to this day when the need to mine for uranium or something on their land. The gov just sends them a piece of paper voiding previous agreements. Problem?

I can recommend some books on the subject. They will make you very angry though.

No treaty the US government has signed with the Indians has ever been worth the paper is was printed on. Might just as well stack it with the old magazines in the outhouse.
