Sulo
I've seen episodes of Scooby Doo that were more frightening than Oblivion. Hell, I choked on my beer now... coming out of my nose, thank you.
Jackal2233
Oblivion for me didn't have any frightening aspects either... to be honest I rely on the Thief series for that... Hell the cradle... OMG the cradle... the horror the horror the horror! But if someone bothers to make a mod to make Skyrim a darker adventure (ambient sounds, creepy noises, more punishing enemies, new lightning) that would be great The thief developers are f--king gods of this however, I doubt bethesda or anyone else can top what they achieved over the years, reminds me of the 2nd mission of thief:the dark project... when that zombie which I thought was an ordinary corpse suddenly stood up with those noises and ambient effects and hell everything else it freaked the living sh--ts outta ma to the point I couldn't play the game for months until conquering my fear! OnlyOneWing
Skyrim does have it's freaky moments. Those damn corpses raising from the dead freak me out. Specially when one sneaks up behind me. I haven't even played through the Dark Brotherhood quests yet.

JimboUK
Perhaps Skyrim being lacking in many respects is explained by the not very widely discussed fact that the Lead Designers from Morrowind, Oblivion, Shivering Isles and Fallout 3 decamped from Bethesda and have been working on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. I spotted the game on Amazon.co.uk in my Recommendations and this paragraph from the blurb caught my eye;- "Open World RPG Design Led by Ken Rolston – Play your way through 60+ hours of riveting storyline, diverse side quests, and open-world exploration created by RPG gurus Ken Rolston (Lead Designer, Morrowind, Oblivion), Creative Director Mark Nelson (Lead Designer, Shivering Isles; Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3), and Lead Designer Ian Frazier (Titan Quest)." There's a thread here on the game, fears of Origin dominate it though.
Guss
i say just " Then we have the realms of Oblivion themselves, lands full of a macabre and twisted creatures. " skyrim not much but those darn trolls and tree people coming from nowhere. other than that so far nothing.

Shantih
:( the skeletons are no longer scary.... they die to quickly, back in cyrodil and vvanderfell they were feared however now its a different story.... I mean no disrespect but what you've posted reminded me of a line in Scary Movie 2: "Cindy, this is a skeleton, this is bones! Would you run from Callista Flockheart?"
Pineapplerum
The Oblivion areas were a little spooky. Those dead people hanging upside down over fire were a little freaky. And I haven't found anything really spooky or scary in Skyrim yet, either. And it doesn't take a whole lot to scare me. I hated the game Silent Hill 3, it got on my nerves (scared me) so much I just gave it away to my nephews.
NAPALM13092
I have never been scared by a video game since Resident Evil 2 and even then I was a little kid and they were s*** jumping out at you scares not genuine fear. So I wouldn't say Oblivion was scary in the slightest but I will say it had that gloomy atmosphere at times. Whether it be the lighting, the monsters, the writing, or all three Skyrim doesn't make you stop and check your surroundings like a paranoid nutcase like Oblivion and Morrowind did. Not hating on Skyrim as it is an amazing game but it's very straight forward, gun ho, charge in style enemies. The only thing that I would say was creepy was my first encounter with the Falmer and Chaurus but that lasted all of like 10mins and now it is just "eyeless scamps and giant earwigs lol". I will say Skyrim is good about the adrenaline, blood pumping, oh s*** run moments though. If you play on Expert or Master fighting Dwemer Centurians, Ancient Dragons, Drauger Deathlords, etc. can get you going if you are ill prepared or surprised. Skyrim does really well in the action department we just need some creepy mods and additional monsters like Wraiths and Bonelords.
