Skyrim won GOTY, Best RPG and Best Studio... Aw Yeah!!

I wish video games had a respectable awards show similar to the Oscars or Academy Awards judged by experts, developers, and "REAL" game critics. Currently the VGA's are like the MTV Movies Awards of video games. Video games are not really seen with any shred of respect so they are judged and voted on by sniveling "cowadooty" playing teenagers and the very professional (sarcasm) people at Spike TV. I mean I love Skyrim and all but that whole awards show was a joke.

I agree Skyrim should be GOTY.

Rage was the biggest flop! I gave it a fair go and beat a lot of it but just got so bored of it, felt it really didnt innovate in regards to story and depth, it was linear in an enfuriating way, and so I felt no incentive to keep playing.

I HATED the Witcher 2 and couldn't be bothered finishing it - not open world, story I could care less about, linear, guy who needs a haircut, not being able to kill that corrupt annoying guy in that town even after he sends people to kill you. Being killed by crossbowmen because you upset some stupid towns folk and corrupt guards even when you have deflect arrows and on the easiest difficulty etc. etc. RUBBISH.

Skyrim has unkillable characters, but it doesnt present this in a way that seems designed to enfuriate and annoy the player.

Skyrim has annoying npcs that all say the same thing, but it can be modded/reworked to remove that or change it.

Skyrim has unique locations throughout, hundreds of quests, open world (with minor exceptions).

It definitely needs patches that can fix the CTDs. Im not sure if mine are only because I overclocked my CPU a little bit to improve performance of the game, because it was also crashing sometimes before I overclocked.

Also I think the magic part of the game isnt very innovative apart from the casting with separately controlled hands. I dont play a mage simply because the available spells dont seme to allow the player to do super amazing things like they do in some RPGs. I usually play as a mage because they have world-bending spells that give abilities other classes cant access - in Skyrim I feel like mages are just "fireball spammers" rather than world-benders.

Skyrim will win awards not only because it is overall a good game but also because it has practically no competition. Look at the shooters for example, they are practically the same they were the last years. Little to no innovation, "ancient" graphics or gameplay, linear, "haveseenitbefore" Storytelling etc.

In fact, some Indie Games would be much harder Challengers than all the "big" Games at the moment.

I would congratulate for the GOTY Title but I would not get to "hyped" over it.

Skyrim has unique locations throughout, hundreds of quests, open world (with minor exceptions).

True, hundreds of quests, 90% of those quests consists of fetching a lute, flute, journal, sword, gather 20 of these or gather 30 of those, and in some cases, fetching a person.

Great portion of civil war quests consists of consecutive identical quests like taking over the forts, even the main NPC's have identical lines during those quests.

Main quest felt good, except for the part with the blades which was completely illogical.

Anyway, in my opinion skyrim is highly overrated. True i did enjoy exploring the land, i liked the atmosphere, i liked the music, but that's where it ends. Everything else implemented in game, felt poorly executed, not to mention the numerous bugs etc.

Also, the argument we hear here so often "don't worry, modders will fix everything" is overused as much as the "arrow in the knee" joke (even though i find the joke funny in most cases  ).

It won goty because of the first couple of hours of gameplay, but once you have played it for awhile you see some of the game breaking bug you will think otherwise. Why mine ore when you can buy all of the ore you need from the merchants and level up blacksmithing in 2days. Ebony ore is only at the throat of the world yet, every merchant somehow finds a way to have 3-5 bars in stock how it that? Level up the 3 crafting perks, to make the best gear in the game this makes exploring for anything else pointless.

Their is no real end game, when you go beyond lvl 50 by explore and experimenting with other weapons, the enemies are still very weak even on masters. With any rpg I expect to find one dungeon that is challenging for people that have the best gear but their are none. End game is more about doing pointless side missions. So to sum it up: merchants have to high of a chance of selling ores/ingots for high end gear, exploring is pointless when it is possible to max crafting early, no compelling storyline, and lack of endgame.

The amount of exploring is nice taken that the world is the size of an mmo, but Bethesda did not think about how people could exploit the crafting/merchant system. Modders will fix this issues next month :P.

I suppose my opinion would be biased given that my game has only crashed once in my 150+ hours of play, and then hasn't crashed at all for my younger brother with his 90+ hours, and then onto my older brother with 300+ hours and still no crashes, and my mom with 6+ hours (she just started) and once again no crashes.

Myself, my mother, and my younger brother are all on PC, my older brother has about 200 hours on xbox 360 and then the rest are on PC. Overall none of us have seen any game-breaking bugs, the game looks pretty good though some texture (not all since some look good in low-res) need to be re-done. bugs... i think my little bro saw a falling mammoth once, thats about it. Voice acting for most characters is fine.

And in response to the guy that mentioned not having a character voice, that's a design choice to make the player seem like they are the character, in Mass effect you play Shepard, not your own character, and in saints row they give you 3 female voices, 3 male, and a zombie..... (this depending upon which game your playing) that's not really something i care about, look at the zelda games, they don't have voices, no one complains about that... well at least people shouldn't.

In my opinion it deserved GOTY, mainly because no other good games have caught my attention, i despise FPS games because they're so unoriginal now, if you play COD your running and gunning... fun..... I get more enjoyment from Duke Nukem and that game sucked. (the new one of course)

Though i do wish Indie games got more recognition, because then i would always want certain indie games as GOTY because some of them really deserve that award.
