Basaltface
Well.. it seems it was a very bad idea to leave this topic alone for a week...a lot of questions came up, and lot of ideas too. I will do my best to answer all questions. Lets start with SnowElf: How i want to put that into the game? I have many ideas. One idea would be for example that you are through some earth quake trapped in an dwemer ruin..maybe together with an npc that also randomly happens to be there. I thought about a researcher who understands a little bit about the dwemers and their machines. You cannot leave the ruin where you entered it, need to seek for another exit. Sure.. you find one. But its location happens to be directly in a falmer outpost. I dont speak about 10.. maybe 20 falmers. Think about an army of falmer...So.. what can 2 guys do against (lets say a random number) 400 falmer? Produce advanced dwemer machines, bring centurions to fight for them, maybe even play arround with some energy sources of the dwemers and create "techno magical" stuff. Well.. whats next? My answer would be a full war below the surface between rebuild or makeshifted dwemer machines and an army of falmer (that would get then for sure new types of troops too). This would be one of about 20 ideas that i have in mind right now. But dont worry.. none of them would be even close to a lore killer cause i made my homework with dwemers lol.All weapons and armors i have in mind so far are "makeshifted" to a degree. Basically "placed together" from dwemer parts. All of them will be craftable after blueprints where found. And if it is possible with the ck..then only on special work benches. Cause in my eyes its not possible to craft a clockwork like machine with a common forge. I find it also somehow odd that you can forge dwemer armors yourself without a recipe or a blueprint. I will also take a look into that for sure. So.. the next one is for Klipperken: What you mentoned with the nutchaku is already what i got in my mind with the way stuff will work in my mods. But it wont stop with easy weapons like a pipe with a chain on it, or a sword that sticks in a pipe of stuff. Yes.. you will start small, easy weapons or a dwemer armor with spikes on it that harm everybody who dare to attack you. But i belive in an "upgrade system". You level up in the game, so you should also be able to "level up" with your skills in dwemer engeneering. You for example start to watch those cogs everywhere and ponder a little about them. Then you take a sick and hold it into the gears and it breaks... so you see that there is power behind that cogwheel thingies. You take a few cogs, learn why they turn, build a "gearbox" add blades to a cog and mount that on a stick.. so you would get for example the "war saw". Im not sure if you know the game "dead rising 2" (if not, check it out if you like fun and splatter elements mixed with zombies). In my mods you will need to craft every single part you need for the armor or weapon on your own...or find em in ruins. But if you want to build them.. you will need enchantment skills, alchemy skills and crafting skills and blueprints..or recipes..or both. Maybe even books and scrolls who teach you the dwemer language. So you basically learn everything on your own in the game and you are able to tinker arround. I have for example one idea for a "night vision" monocle, i will take this as a detailed example. As soon you find the blueprint for it and want to build it you will need to prove your talents with magic and craft a "living eye" out of an animal eye that is able to see in the darkness. (i will take a look into the bestiarium to find a fitting "victim" for that). Then you will need to mix up a potion with alchemy that will encoat the eye later in the monocle. And you will need to forge the monocle itself with crafting skills. Now that you have the parts for the monocle you can combine them and create the nightvision monocle. Thats how it will work for every single piece of equipment in my mods, and like this you will be also able to build centurio companions.. but enough about that now. I think you get how that will work ;) So folks.. i thank once again for your ideas and minds to that theme. I also thank you guys for your criticism and also for your nice words :)
AntaresCommander
Sadly, here in little Belgium, there's no bookstore that has the Morrowind literature. What I stated came from sites as Wiki, and if they are lying, then so am I.http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:DwemerErm, I'd suggest the site http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Wiki instead. Its where I got my morrowind info. Of course, skyrim also has the dwemer museum in markath, which I will check out later. Then: About the armor: this is a silly remark' date=' really, about "we fit into that, so they were our size".Both my Khaj as well as my Argo can wear ALL armor AND helmets. You try putting on a full helmet, when you have a lizard head?Or a mask? The Khajiit are "Toe-Walkers", they can however wear boots?(PS: Ingame speaking.)[/quote']On the subject of armor, thank you for noticing that. I was afraid no one other than myself would notice. Whenever I make a point, I always start debating my own points, but could not fix that because of time constraints... Oh, but when I said smaller, I realized I meant shorter, not smaller... which leads to mental images of my argonian wearing a dwemer helmet like a hat. ... okay. PS: Over time of Morrowind and it's addons (Tribunal/Bloodmoon)' date=' no site spoke of the Dwemer as anything else than Dwarves. Many back then even depicted them as "LotR" Dwarves.Mainly my info came from back then about the Dwemer. And thusfar, no site for what I know speak of them as Elves?[/quote']Well, the books in the series Ancient Tales of The Dwemer are found in various places in skyrim, oblivion, and morrowind. But you can also read them off the site I linked to, as with other books the site has transcribed. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_Tales_of_the_Dwemer ADDENDUM: My point was: one can make new weapons etc. which are Dwemer' date=' but please let these be somewhat lore-correct.No man ever wielded a hammer that weighed 500 pounds, or a steam tank on his back to power a steam-based rifle...[/quote']As for you point, yes, I agree, lore friendly, if you will. The dwemer did use quite a bit of technology over the choice of magic, but not that much. Oh, and lets not bring this subject up any more before we derail the topic. Feel free to pm me, however. Edit:Do'h, forgot to say my two cents about the mod... well, have you looked at tytanis? Someone suggested being able to use dragon souls to make special soul gems? Well, since dragon souls are player stat, from what I can tell, they why not use dragon souls to construct certain artificial souls? To make sure you can't just spam dragonsoulgems, different sized machines would require different gems, so you would have the choice of two steam centurions, four dwemer spheres... or a steam dragon. <_< Okay, the last one isn't lore friendly, but mods have certain lee-way, don't they? Reddimus
Very cool stuff Basalt. There's so many random Dwemer pieces laying around. You'll be busy for years  Dweme big or Dweme no more. Edited December 19, 2011 by Reddimus
Basaltface
Thanks mate lol. And belive it or not.. i actually got ideas for some years. XDBack since morrowind i was plotting arround with dwemer stuff and so i got a bunch of ideas ;)
Zenchii
Edit:Do'h, forgot to say my two cents about the mod... well, have you looked at tytanis? Maybe not a steam dragon. But what if a quest reward in the mod was a steam centurion companion, but it wasn't just a mindless machine. More like Shale from DA:O. Ok, not sure how to explain my idea in a short manner, so It's gonna be a bit long. Keep in mind that I'm quite literally making this up as I go along, so bear with me here. Ok. Imagine, if you will, a sort of draconic Centurion. You'd need a high level in enchanting and smithing and a maxed out dwemer engineering skill. When reading the rest of this, imagine that you're reading what seems to be the journal of an ancient dwemer engineer discovered by you found in an old ruin. (part of a quest introduced by the mod, let's say) A lot of it is no longer readable, except most of this entry: ".... FINALLY! My studies on how to harness a dragon's powers have brought forth results!! According to my research, in order to use dragon shouts... [this portion of the entry is unreadable]... This research has lead to the creation of what I like to call, the "Draconic centurion"! (Quite a nice ring to it, if I do say so myself!) I should document it here to make sure I never forget. Right then, In order to create the Draconic centurion, I used the body of a dwemer centurion as a base. From there, get 200 bars of dwarven ingots, about 40 large vials of dragon's blood, some dragon bones and a dragon soul. First, gut the inside of the centurion, and make plenty of room for the pipes you are about create for it. Then, use the dwarven ingots mentioned above to create said pipes, as well as a large pump with a slot reserved for a soul gem in it. After that's done, magically preserve the dragon's blood with an enchantment. This will keep it from drying up for life times. (NOTE TO SELF: Use a black soul gem for this. It's your best bet ) Next use a [This part has become unreadable] to craft the dragon remains mentioned above into a sort of gem like object, you will need to enchant it to turn it into a soul gem. What you need is ... [This part has become unreadable] to enchant the item, turning it into a soul gem that can actually carry a dragon's soul. Next, kill a dragon and capture it's soul with the same spell you'd capture any other creature's soul. Make sure to have your new dragon soul gem with you. Congratulations! You now have a filled dragon soul gem. Next, begin installing the pipes and the pump inside the steam centurion. The pump should be connected to the pipes and placed in the chest area of the centurion. Once that is complete, make sure to hook up the centurion to a charging station. Next, pour all of the preserved dragon blood into the pump. When it activates, it will pump the blood through the pipes like the heart pumps blood through one's veins. Now, place the dragon soul gem into the pump's slot nice and securely. Now turn on the charging station. Once it's fully charged, activate it. Now that it has both the blood and the soul of a dragon, it can actually use the dragon shouts as if it were second nature! I tested this big boy out on a giant nearby, and it set that enormous oaf aflame with a concentrated wave of fire! I'm the greatest Dwemer that that ever lived! A genius, a trail blazer, a... [unfortunately, the last two readable pages in the journal after that entry are filled with nothing more than him patting himself on the back]" Instead of a dragon soul gem, you'd use one of your own dragon souls to power it directly. Basically, it's a dwemer centurion with it's head redesigned to resemble that of a dragon's, and instead of the steam attack, it uses a modified version of a dragon's fire breath. The voice would sound like an echo-y, almost ethereal version of a dragon's voice, as if the voice is coming directly from the soul trapped within it. Also, since you didn't use a dragon soul gem like you should, and just put the raw soul in, it becomes possessed by the dragon itself. Making it an actual companion you can speak to, rather than just a mindless minion. I tried to make it fit the lore as well as I could, but I don't think I did very well with that. Any thoughts? Basaltface
o_O... yea thats quite some idea that you made up there lol. Even its very..very close to a cyborg.. or should i say "dra-borg"? (lulz). And yep.. that would be quite some usefull companion. I am rather cautious with dragon stuff. Dragons are cool.. needles to say. But if you mix everything you can get between your greedy fingers with dragon stuffs ,it starts to suck. Dragon this.. dragon that.. bla.. bla. It bores me already..and i only think about it.Why we dont take some black soul gem, kill some (prepared) npc and can so decide how the centurio acts, how he fights.. how he speaks. Like if you would take some sneaky guy, then the centurio would be some awesome assassin..maybe you add some cloth on it to make some kind of cloak. Or a mage "victim", the centurio wears an (opened) robe and got some books or scrolls as decoration on it while he pwns ppl with ze magix.Or maybe a warrior type? Some spikes, a big axe.. extra armor parts, maybe even horns? This would be something that would not really destroy the lore. There are talking dogs too, dragons can talk and centurions run arround and beat you to a bunch of broken bones and bloody skin if you dont take care in the ruins. I dont see a reason why this should not be combined. About the blood and the heart stuff... i guess thats useless. A centurio works pretty good without that stuff (and they also got souls). But it would be an idea for something else. Im not sure if you know..or knew "sotha sil" from morrowind (short: pretty much a machine demi god), some epic, veeery long, veeeery complicated and veeery "everything else that it could be but dont comes to my mind atm" where you at the end can kinda play sotha sil...or something like that. But thats too far away from the mods i plan atm. Nonetheless that idea of yours was already saved into my idea folder, lets see what is possible after a while . ;)
AntaresCommander
Ah, thank you. I'm glad you thought of something like that, (thief, warrior, thief, mage, thief, centurion.) I simply thought people liked dragons too much. Hm... what else besides that... um... personally, I wouldn't mind having those dwemer command sphere around me, instead of a centurion. Their crossbows look nice, and having ranged support over melee support reassures me as to its survivability in combat. That, and I'll stop wasting arrows on moving dragons, since they seem to 180 whenever I lead them with my bow. Either that, or my arrows are traitors. >_> Oh, and those little spiders. They look... weak in combat, but they'd create a nice distraction if you mass produced them. That, and they look like natural lockpickers and leverpullers, and I guess they could carry some weight to. More mundane, but still a good utility. Basaltface
i tell ya what this spiders could do... suicide spiders, stealth spiders, "staff spider" (mount a mage staff on it and let it walk arround, shooting magix), crossbow spider (mount a crossbow ), big spider (scale it up and give it moa dangerous weapons). And i guess you arrows are traitors like mine...they only seem to like knees :\ . As for the centurion spheres... im quite sure i could make there some usefull companion that plays orb if you sneak, extends his sword if you draw yours and fires the crossbow if the target is too far away. To that it could carry your stuff and maybe even do some magix. Shouldnt be that hard to make.I also thought about a spell that "drops" a bunch of those things in sphere modus from the sky. (will be part of a now nameless mod where you will controll a "dwemer dreadnought- airship" and fight some bunch dragons down) And i have a few special versions in mind too ;)
GreekIrish
That claw is amazing. Do you need sound effects? I can craft some really great sounds for these weapons.
Mechanorm
The voice would sound like an echo-y, almost ethereal version of a dragon's voice, as if the voice is coming directly from the soul trapped within it. I sincerely hope you don't mind Basaltface, but after reading this and your response as to the roles of a Centurion, I couldn't help but make these quick sound bytes - http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=77255 and http://www.onmvoice.com/play.php?a=77256 Edited December 19, 2011 by Mechanorm
