Why don't I get attacked first?

I tend to travel in a group. Whenever a 'baddie' shows up, he/she/it runs right past my character and launches its attack on one of the companions. Not always the same one. I thought the 'weakest' companion was being attacked, but not so. Is it anything to do with using 'custom made' characters and not Vanilla?

Wait untill they run right past you in order to attack your horse,

then they kill the horse, before you kill them.

I have special treats I reserve, just for those guys now.

The first time THAT happened, my wife ran for a hose to put the fire out.

Hi Mate!

...but , if I had a horse, which I don't, I'm sure it would be a very nice horse! Why would I kill the horse? And if I had my wife in the game, I wouldn't worry about the enemy! ( did I say that out loud?)

EDIT: oh. you said 'they' kill the horse. Take back the  and apply the  to me.

Yes you did and when I tell her, no I meant when she finds out, you had better hope that WoogieMonster gets to you first. To protect you I mean, of course thats what I meant. At this rate I'm gonna need his protection. Not that you would do anything to me I mean... You need to understand that WoggieMonster was a very nice guy untill all those beatings he took from the Master Chef for exploding sodas using a device I'm not supposed to talk about. Whoops, Now your going to need to tell him I'm sorry and maybe he will forgive you cause you are an old man who is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other not to mention toothless...

Oh God, I'll start digging my grave now, Ok?

I may be in deep water but maybe I'll drown before either one of you can get to me.

Just don't blame the mudcrabs or the famous ninja will kill all of us and have us with BBQ sauce. Yea, tho he be deni it now I heard him recomend it to the Dark0ne who was looking for the perfect answer for some endless spamers. This is quite possibly my final word on anything so...remember no matter how small your mouth is, all by your self you can put your biggest foot in it. :ninja:

"Cheers Mate"

the old man rumbled, as he rambled away in to the darkness...

Edit: My god who told you how to use that button... Alarms are goin off all over the place now dammit... My ears won't stop ringin...

Stormraven! Dagnabit!

You KNOW what's going to happen now, don't you?! A very BIG moderator is going to come along and KILL this thread! And it will be ALL your fault!!!. AND I still wont have received the answer to my , I thought, valid query. How dare you!?

Drowning is too good for you. The Woogie Monster is too good for you. My wife is too good for the both of us. You've been at the sody pops, again, haven't you. Don't you, yet ,know what happens to old guys like us who get too much sugar intake? Lie down, now, wont you!! Don't you know how many 'E'numbers are in these smiley faces you will insist on using. Cut down on em, I say. Have a BIG rant on yer own thread! Leave mine alone, 'cause it's feeling decidedly fragile.

prff thats an easy question, stop using companions who are very pretty females and the male barbarians will stop running to them, ignoring you in the process :whistling:

anyways, it really to do with threat levels, your companions obviously offer more of a threat from their skills than you do, so your ignored automatically by the AI, i find sticking an arrow in the baddies eye socket tends to make them re-think that

For some reason horses offer a bigger threat level than you do too but theres a mod out there to fix that ;)

Note:If im wrong some smarty-pants will correct me hopefully

The reason why they attack your companion first has to deal with dispositions. Your companions usually have a lower personality value than you, and that value isn't getting offset by fame/infamy. If you give your companions 100 personailty, it should change things slightly. I say slightly because companions also tend to start combat before the player gets a hit in, and that can usually trigger aggression. It should also be noted that some companions might not respond well to this change because they rely on those aggressive NPCs targeting them to get involved in any combat. The only sure solution would be to get yourself a scripted spell that focuses all NPCs in the immediate area who are hostile toward the player to target the player.

The horse issue is similar, but a bit different due to how the game tracks mounted actors. While mounted, as far as several aspects of the game is concerned (movement speed, positioning, dispositions, controls, and effects) , you are your horse. NPCs attack your horse after dismounting because your horse is what they initially targeted (not you). This can be demonstrated by wearing a ring with 500 personality bonus (making nothing agressive toward player) and mounting up, verses modding a horse to have an ability with 500 personality and mounting up.

Stewb, I'll have you know that I AM the best looking babe in the woods. So if it was a honey trap thing I'd be on the front line everytime. But the threat level idea makes sense.

And Vagrant, disposition works for me too. But that scripted spell you mentioned... who he?

Thanks to both of you for some intelligent conversation after that DISGRACEFUL display by Stormraven.

But... will everyone STOP going on about HORSES!" I'm a runner! NOT a rider. Heights, you know. Nosebleeds. All that.

Ta.

Can you just get your own disposition/personality really low instead of raising theirs? Will that work?

I have the same "problem"with companions, though this hasn't bothered me as much- gives me a bit of breathing space to get equipped- also tend to take companions with me only when I need them

i think vagrant mean you should make it, the scripted spell, yourself or request a kindly modder to make one for you in the appropiate part of the forums and failing that just plain search in the main database ;)

Also for the companions attacking first i'd reccomend thetalkietoaster's mod for companions which allows you to order them how to behave, i.e when to attack e.t.c. sorry can't remember the name, just do a search for his name in the author part of advance search and look through his mods.

There is also a mod to prevent horses being attacked in the database, likewise i can't remember the name :( (If you ever get around to buying one ;) )
