Feanor11
hey...i asked Dark0ne what his sig is from....He said Equilibrium....Sean Bean (Boromir)'s in that also! Where'd that comment come from  I think the Sil would only be possible if they could introduce new characters and plots without confusing and overwhelming the audience. It all revolves around a simple thing, the simirals, but unlike LotR, it has a lot more than one fellowship. To prevent cutting, I think a trilogy would go well. btw, I never thought about this, but what's with Tolkien and magic jewlry?!?!
Dark0ne
The Silmarillion wouldn't work as a film - you can't fit 36,000 years into a 3 hour film. Now, as a series of short stories each 1 hour long, that could work, but not as a film.
gokega
The Silmarillion wouldn't work as a film - you can't fit 36,000 years into a 3 hour film. Now, as a series of short stories each 1 hour long, that could work, but not as a film. absolutely right, even a trilogy of films would be too short, a TV series on the other hand would allow enough space to tell all the stories without confusing, because one could for example start a new storyline every new season. After watching RotK I think that a TV series would have been better for LotR, too. I mean, in the third movie such great characters like Legolas and Gimli are only statists and the whole Faramir and Eowyn story was left out, as was the Saruman story. And we would finally see the Old Forest and the mightiest creature on Middle-Earth - Tom Bombadil.
Stormscape
They also left out THe Scoruing of the Shire"That was my favourite chapter and was based on what Frodo saw in Llorien.
Jesugandalf
I'm sure you could make a hundred movies out of what is told in the Silmarillion but, as Dark0ne says, just one movie for the whole of the Sil wouldn't be enough. But imagine anybody has the idea of making a TV series about all those stories of the Silmarillion (Beren and Lúthien, the lost kingdom of Gondolin, the creation of the world with Eru and the music of the Valar...). That would be just great: one chapter each week, one hour and a half each chapter... Wouldn't it be just nice?
Feanor11
You'd have to hope they get a lot of cash first. Most TV series have crappy CG and bad actors.

drowst
The Silmarrilion is also tough to do a movie on, as all the "good" characters die, usually through treachery. Its a good story no doubt, but its tough as every time you start rooting for someone they die.
Ëlwe (Thingol)
It simply won't work cuz it is a compilation of lets of stories, though they could simly make a movie about one of those stories. Like Akallabeth, that would form a great story and it also contains enough enfi for a nice detailed movie but most of the stories simply contain too less info or simply re to boring to make a movie about. And well, those battles of old time like the storming of Thangorodrim contain THAT much elves that maybe even Peter Jacksons comps will show lagging symptoms. But I do admit a movie about that would b cool. :bleh: Ëlwe
