huntsman2310
Well... I'm open to the idea. I've kind of thought about making a few caves for slitherers to make their homes in. Dark, windy and claustrophobic mazes where the thing can get the drop on you from direction. Hang on... *looks at sig*, tundr... YES. But back on track what was your idea about that quest? FennecFyre
Spoilered for size Basically, your character would find a drake nest in a cave. The mother drake would be laying dead at the front of the cave, with heavy wounds and burn marks, suggesting she got into a fight with a dragon. Burn marks would also be on the ground near her. Behind her would be a nest with several dead drake whelps. You can loot the bodies and leave, or investigate further. If you keep looking around, you would find a smaller-than-normal whelp hiding in a small niche near the nest, where it had taken refuge when the dragon attacked. You can kill it, or coax it out with food. It then follows you outside the cave, therefore starting a quest entitled "My One-Ton Hatchling" (Or a better title. Please.) The quest's text would say something like "I seem to have picked up an orphaned drake whelp. I should find somewhere it can stay. Divines help me." Farther off, you would find a cave that would be perfect for it, perhaps near a river or lake. You tell the drake to stay here, and it alternates between resting in the cave and walking around outside it, depending on the time of day. You can visit it whenever you want, and it may come up and beg for food when you near it. After a few days, when you visit you may notice animal remains near the den, suggesting it can feed itself now. The drake is not hostile, but it seems a little more aloof than it's clingy hatchling stage. It still stays smaller than an average drake, suggesting it was the runt of the litter. Eventually, you might find you have the option to try and ride it. The first time, it will sit down roughly, making you slide off. Coaxing it with food allows it to tolerate you on it's back. After it's comfortable, you can take your first gallop on drakeback! The drake is far more powerful than a horse, making a good companion for fighting, especially fighting large enemies. It can also be commanded like a dog, you can tell it to wait, follow or return to it's cave. When you complete your first ride, the quest text changes to "That ride was exhilarating, but my drake's scales are extremely rough. I wonder if I could create some sort of padding? I should see what I can do with x leather and x leather strips (Leaving this up to you.)" Once your character has the specified materials, you can use a workbench (or anvil, maybe) to create the item Drake Saddle. It looks like an extra large saddle, with a strap around the chest as well as one around the belly. There is no bridle, as your drake can be commanded by voice or by nudging it with your feet, and because of how frequently it uses it's jaws to bite and breath fire. Return to the drake, and you can put it on it. When you ride your drake near people, they may stare or run away. (I don't know about voices for this, though.) Full Quest TextFinding the drake: "I seem to have picked up an orphaned drake whelp. I should find somewhere it can stay. Divines help me."Settling it in the cave: "My drake has a new den now, but I should check on it frequently. When it kills it's first meal: "Looks like he can hunt for himself now. I don't need to check on him as much. He appears to be growing as well. I wonder how much weight he could support..."After getting dumped off: "Well, he didn't take to me being on his back. Maybe I can coax him with food."After the first ride: "That ride was exhilarating, but my drake's scales are extremely rough. I wonder if I could create some sort of padding? I should see what I can do with x leather and x leather strips."Making the saddle and riding the drake again: "The saddle worked perfectly. I can now ride my drake without getting injured." huntsman2310
Sounds pretty awesome. I mean it'll take some skill with scripting to pull off with the later stages of the quest, but I think I can make the two caves and the drake whelp itself easily. Galacticat42
As awesome as it sounds, if you want it lore-friendly (which it doesn't have to be if you don't want it to be) there are no such things as female dragons/drakes in TES. Dragons don't reproduce and they are never young (dragonlings are a sub-species). According to a daedra, dragons 'just are'. Reason behind this is that their father, Akatosh is the monarch of time and his children are affected by such an attribute, making them eternal. If you want, you can either ignore this post and go lore-unfriendly, you can change the quest, you can borrow my method of finding a loophole in lore (with matriarchs), or you can come aboard TDL and help plan out the water levels of chapter 3. Any way you choose I wish you luck. huntsman2310
I'm not sure yet. I've only planned so far as putting them in-game as a way to make fighting more unique than just clobbering dragons all day. After that I'm not certain what I want to do with them. Of course I'll be starting up again at the end of august or so. I need to get reaquainted with blender 2.49b.
FennecFyre
Ah, I didn't know that about dragons :/ You'd think after all the wiki-browsing I do I would've found that out. I know they're immortal but not invincible (Fun fact: ancient Norse gods are this way as well) but I had just assumed they bred and hatched like any living thing. I guess one could say that since dragons and drakes are separate animals the same rules don't apply, but whatever way you want to do it is fine. Tzontlimixtli
You could incorporate the "Lifecycle" of the Korean Dragon, perhaps. In their mythology more common Dragon is called an Imugi, as far as I remember it is mortal, but lives a loong LONG time. These are pretty much big serpents, like the old Germanic Wyrms. BUT, if one becomes wise enough, or achievs some sort of great merit, and is very lucky a star falls from the heavens (these are often depicted as glowing orbs, indeed, Dragon Balls). It then devours the "star" and becomes a true Dragon, a Celestial Dragon. These are capable of flight, creation, pretty much anything and are usually benevolent. Now in The Elder Scrolls, Dragons are pretty much mortal gods, and it is made plain that they are generally vicious by nature, so they're not exactly identical analogues to Imugi. But I suppose if one of these Wyverns or Land Dragons were to live for an exceptionally long time or achieve something great, maybe Akatosh could grant them further power and flight? Afterall, he prefers to take the form of a Dragon, he seems to be the main god and is able to bestow the soul of a Dragon upon humans of his choosing. To me it seems like a doable way to bend the lore without distorting it too much.
huntsman2310
Yeah possibly. Some time in the future I might add in a incredibly old slitherer type who's all wise and knows Paarthurnax. I'm using the Slitherer as an example because they are, shape and skill wise, more similar to Imugi than western dragons.
