Photoshop or Painshop

Yes, Photoshop if you can afford it, not that I've used it but I hear it's very good, it's a good £100+ though AFAIK. PSP is more like £60, and is pretty good. You can make .tga files with it, so you could use it to make textures, personally I use it to make icons, works very well, can even make the background transparent.

i tried both last night (downloaded them then deleted them), and i found that Adobe photoshop is the best for...well...anything, but drains your CPU and since im stuck with this p3 500 till another week or two, ill have to go with paintshop, i can get it for $100 (australian), but i just need one more answer before this can be locked.

would it be possible to take a photo of som stomped grass, change the size in the painshop, change it to TGA, and use it as a texture, because im after some high quality stuff here, like, Soldier Of Fortune 2 quality

I have been using Adobe Photoshop for years. I currently use vesion 7.0.I have delt with paintshop but I was not impressed. Photoshop 7.0 cost $700. But compared to some programs thats nothing. However Photoshop 7.0 is the standard for professional 2D graphics. The movie, video game and just about any media industrie that needs a 2D program use it.

Well, I'm not quite an expert at 2d art... but I use Paint Shop Pro. It works well for everything I need it for. And according to some more experienced artists, it does 90% of the same things as Photoshop. Just like any other art form, the best tool depends greatly on the artist's preference. Well, once you get above the obvious inferior products, which both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro do. Of course if money's a problem, definitely get psp... 90% of the features for 20% of the price is a pretty good deal.

Final advice: get the demos of each, try it and see which you like.

I would definitely go with Photoshop. But then again, since I'm a graphic designer, I'm completely biased towards it . But seriously, I really like Photoshop, and wouldn't change it for the world.........Except maybe a combination of Flash MX and Photoshop.........Aber Träume sind nur Träume.

Here's an image that i did a long time ago.......
