I feel better about Skyrim now...

So, my eighth grade nephew got the other big x-mas game and GOTY contender "Call of Duty 3". I was interested in checking it out since it's a game I would never buy for myself. And, wow, before Christmas day was over he had already completed the game. I guess it had good lighting and shading and nice textures, but for a completely linear game that literally forces you to rush past all of the environments anyway I have to say I feel a lot better about Skyrim now. This major contender for GOTY seemed utterly pathetic next to Skyrim. It's literally so simplistic and insipid that a child can plow through every aspect of the game in a matter of hours. Suddenly It feels really great to be back in Skyrim again. :)

I do not like COD all that much but I play it every now and again, BUT, I dunno if you realized it yet but nobody buys COD for Singleplayer

The campaign is linear and yada yada yada yada, but the multiplayer is what matters, it is the fun of the game and what you will spend 99% of your gameplay time of that game in, it's like buying BF3 for it's campaign wich is another absolute linear piece of s***, but the multiplayer is very good indeed (better than COD might I add) and it's even better with the newest DLC wich I got for free because I preordered.

My point is, the game is about multiplayer, so f*** the campaign  But with all seriousness I think you are trying to find and excuse to why Skyrim was a disapointment (at least for me) and you are like "oh this game is bad so I feel better now" and also who cares about a friggin GOTY? In my opinion that doesn't mean anything and won't make me buy a game, if the gameplay is good I buy it, if it's not I don't, if I like it I buy it, if I don't I won't, very simple stuff here, I don't get why people care about reviews and crappy awards, seriously.

And for the third time, it's a friggin multiplayer game so it's most likely the campaign will suck

My reaction to this post:

And just in case you are not familiar with the "MW' part, that stands for Modern Warfare 3. All together, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

There are so many that it is hard to keep up with, so I do not blame you at all haha.

Also, games like that are games that should have the campaign completed first, and then straight to online mulitplayer. The Xbox Live part is the only thing that keeps CoD (Call of Duty) kicking. So, seeing that I can not have Xbox Live anymore, I tend to just rent them for consoles from gamefly.

I completely agree with you, this series has been dumbed down for the kiddies, and its ruined, just like many other games. Multi player is just full of kiddies, no time for this anymore.

Having played Skyrim for a little longer now I have started to get into it more, I have heavy critisms for certain things but its a damn fine game on the whole!

Vampire Attack

I am walking along the road in the woods at night after doing a quest, when suddenly I see two creeping figures in the distance. They sneak closer, I prepare my spells and then ambush!, my companion takes on one of them and they run off somewhere and I am left fighting the other one, I can barely see him and then he turns invisible, I use a whisper and hurl my sparks at him, he falls, then a couple of wolves decide they will try their luck, praying on my injured state. I quickly take them out and then look for my companion who has gone quite far after the other one who has also gone invisible, he is not easy to find but I eventually catch up with him, he is looking for him, we search for a bit and then find him crouching down near a stone, he tries to flee, we take him down.

What other game would provide such a cool random event like this? It was simply brilliant and felt so eerie seeing them figures creeping up on you in the dark. It really made me appreciate what they have tried to do with Skyrim and so it gets my vote for GOTY despite the annoying things it has SO much that makes it deserve this title.

edit: oops I wrote "really" too many times!

I have some large complaints with Skyrim too, my current character has a quest-breaking bug in the Main Quest. Luckily, my current character isn't pursuing that quest really. Skyrim attempts to do a lot more than other games attempt to do and as a result it has more problems than other games. All the bugs and glitches annoy me too but I figure it's only a matter of time before data patches and the CK comes out and then all these bugs will get fixed. In the meantime, I can still enjoy the game even with the bugs, especially considering what the other alternatives are. For open world, non-linear gamers, the options are slim indeed. I'm just glad I have Skyrim to sink my teeth into, bugs and all.

That's why it usually caters to a totally different audience although some developers don't get it and ramble on about capturing the COD crowd.
