[WIP] Weapon Addition and Replacement Suite (WARS)

I know this is probably a stupid question. But, was the Pancor Jackhammer ever thought about to be featured in WARS? Because of it's history in Fallout and needing something to replace the Combat Shotgun. It probably doesn't matter much now, but I'm just curious. It was personally my favorite shotgun in the series, and loved it when Millenia added it to NV.

Also can't wait to play the mod. Looks really good, and obviously a lot of hard work and dedication is being put into it.

Thanks. :)

Sorry though; I'm planning to replace the Combat Shotgun with a USAS-12, since giving it a good selection of attachments should be easier than something like the Jackhammer.

Ya, i know. I thought that was a good choice, considering the only other option probably could have been the Saiga. But, the USAS is way better. Anyways keep up the good work fella's. I wish y'all much luck on the road ahead. Edited by zetsupony

Will you be making use of F4SE? I'm not exactly sure what F4SE seems to add, as there's only one mod I can recall that adds it, because Fallout 4 does a good job with scripted mods now. Maybe that could make things a little bit easier such as adding casings and whatnot.

Also, just a suggestion, but as a WIP file, maybe you could upload a file that just contains the weapon replacements? Kind of like, a WARS lite. Your choice though, not trying to force your hand, I'm just so tired of ignoring the vanilla weapons, it's driving me mad. Take your time, though, I'm sure the effort will pay off in the end, and we'll get a very nicely-polished mod.

Another opinion :
-Don't replace the 10mm pistol, since it has been the "symbol" of the series's weapons. The same for combat rifle and shotgun.
-The assault rifle should become "heavy assault rifle" and is only available late-game.

-Consider adding some guns like the Deagle .44, Mauser 9mm, Grease gun, 10mm SMG, H&K P90, R97 AR (Fallout 3's assault rifle for early-mid game), FN Fal (Seems to be the chinese's assault rifle in the intro movie), HK G11, HK CAWS, Jackhammer as seen in Fallout 1&2

I'll use F4SE if it lets me do something I need to do and can't do otherwise.

The first release of WARS (which may be considered an alpha release - don't know yet) is likely to be when the four replacer weapons are in. What I'm not sure about yet is how much of the other stuff I'll also want done before that release. (E.g. ammo crafting, ammo switching, general rebalance, etc.)

Sorry, the four weapons mentioned in the OP are going to be replaced outright; I really don't like those weapons.

There are a lot of weapons I'd like to have in the game, but it all takes time. Something I may do way later is an optional add-on for WARS that incorporates high-quality weapons from other mods into the WARS "system" or "set-up" or whatever you want to call it. The sort of thing where you download and install the original mod, but deactivate its plugin and use the WARS one instead.

That way you'd get a bunch more weapons in the game, forming part of a consistent whole. (To be clear, it wouldn't be that there was necessarily anything wrong with the original mods' plugins, just that their balancing and general set-up would likely be pretty different to WARS.)

I'm glad that the Mini-14 is one of the chosen weapons. AFAIK is (or was) widely used by law enforcement and the civilian market, but barely any mod gets it into the Wasteland (just one for FONV comes to mind).

A small joke/suggestion for unique variant: pistol grip, side folding stock, wooden furniture, Stainless Steel metal parts...and naming It the 'The A-Team Rifle'.

So can you tell us when we can expect a release?

looks awesome!

It would just be speculation at this stage - and I did some of that speculation a page or two back, I think.

I love what you've got going on with this mod, everything is looking very tidy and professionally integrated. My heart fluttered when I saw the KKM Precision style compensator for the Glock, are you going to add a Surefire X300U style weapon light to the Glock so we can complete the 'Roland Special' look? *wink wink nudge nudge*

Thanks. I don't know yet if I'll be including tac-lights in WARS. It's certainly a possibility - and will be much more likely if I can find suitable resources for them. I've got an awful lot of work to do, so I'll be unlikely to have time for them if I have to model and texture them from scratch myself - at least for the foreseeable future.

Yo! I did do a little pecking around and found a Surefire X300 resource that'd fit the bill http://gamebanana.com/models/1185 but yeah nah I fully get you on the workload thing. When I was working on my weapon mods mod during the early days of FO4Edit the more things I figured out how to do the more crazy ideas I got and the workload spiraled out of control; got bored and went back to playing Skyrim instead. I've got no idea how you big-boys and girls manage to stay on top of things, but kudos!

And truth be told; I don't think I've ever used a weaponlight or pipboy light for any serious reason in FO4, but the Roland Special does look neat.

Also read some of your discussions regarding the scope mount height and things like the laser blocking sight picture and whether to side mount the LAM, how high up do you have the unit sitting? A DBAL for instance should hug the rail pretty tightly: http://jerkingthetrigger.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/LDI-DBAL-D2-Class-1-IR-Laser.jpg - you can almost see the front post sight sticking out over the top of it if you want a known benchmark to reference against. Here's a link to a Comp M4 + DBAL setup on another rifle showing the sight picture and overall setup: https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_219/245855_Question_regarding_Larue_Mounts_and_the_clearance_of_a_LDI_DBAL_and_Comp_M4.html

You're probably thinking of kouoaeha's Mini-14 for FNV, which as it happens is the one I'm porting for WARS, since kouoaeha was kind enough to give me permission.

And funny you should mention unique weapons that are configured in a certain way as a reference to something. I've had vague plans to do that for a while now. The example so far is the "Patriot" configuration for the AR-15.

Thanks for the link. It looks like I'd still need to make a low-poly, bake normals and texture it myself, but it's certainly a lot better than starting from scratch.

Yeah, that's basically where I've got the DBAL. The top is maybe very slightly higher? It's probably down to the vagaries of how it was modelled. Thanks for the reference images; can never have enough of those.
