antistar
I wonder how much weight will be shaved off guns if every single moddable bit used fixed weights instead...even just adding glowing dots to the sights of your gun multiplies its overall weight by like 0.05 or something. This mod does something pretty similar to what I'm planning. It has a couple of images there illustrating the weight difference. Hi Antistar, how does the mod evolve? I'm in the middle of doing the high-poly meshes for the USAS-12.
ASCO118
Hi antistar, do you plan to make other Bullpup rifle ?
antistar
You mean besides the SA80/L85? Not at the moment, no.
Radsweeper
Hi Antistar,I am a very late join to this party but I wanted to input a few things.Firstly, thank you for all your modding work you have provided the community, across many Bethesda games.I always had a lot of respect for the amount of work you poured into FNV (its always been my favorite game),and I always enjoyed it all. The base FNV game had a good lineup of weapons and a decent amount of tweaks forthe guns and ammo. Then there was Gunrunner Arsenal which was great, and then your work just broughteverything into perfect harmony IMHO.Second, this is shaping up to be a truly awesome mod! But it's your vision, don't get sidetracked, or fallvictim to feature creep, and that happens to the best of us. Suggestion from everyone is always great; takenotes and move on. Worse comes to worse, close this up properly and if and when you feel like it, create achapter two or whatever. I fully agree on your choice of replacement weapons and reasons. We were spoiled inF:NV - F4 has been somewhat of a huge disapointment for me, weapon wise. Finally don't give yourself or anybody else added pressure by toying with a release date. Those who can't wait can just make their own overhaul! Thanks again,Radsweeper
antistar
Thanks. :) And yeah, the only time I'm really comfortable giving even approximate release dates is really when everything for the actual release is finished and all that's left is stuff like documentation, screenshots and packaging. As a general update; man, doing high-poly meshes for a full weapon (plus some attachments) is time-consuming. The USAS-12 is coming along well I think, but it's a lot of work. So far I've done the three magazines, the barrels, front sight, handguard, trigger and (just about) the selector switch. The receiver is next, and it's fairly intricate of course. I don't normally bother showing high-poly meshes, but I might do it this time once they're done, since it's a full weapon.

It sounds like you are taking on a lot for one person. The m4 with under barrel grenade launcher is an awesome original for example, but I think we already have a USAS-12? Can you ask permission to use it, or is it not up to standard?
SekachPrime
Howdy Antistar, just wanted to chime in and say how awesome it is that you decided to include the m16 m203 setup which is so woefully unrepresented in modern fps. Keep up the good work^^

Can you ask permission to use it, or is it not up to standard?Effectively I have had a lot of help with WARS, really. Beyond the obvious, with Hitman doing the animations, I'm using a lot of resources as starting points, at least. I mention the original authors when I post screenshots, and they'll all be in the credits, of course. The M203 grenade launcher you mention is originally by Tigg, for example. When it comes to all the extra work I do when porting or compiling something - and the stuff I do from scratch - well, I want it done a particular way. The usual "mod for yourself first" approach. Also, people that are capable of this sort of thing - with the time, knowledge, willpower, etc - usually have their own projects they're busy with, and don't have time to take on requests. I know I have to say no to a number of requests myself. I do have permission to use the existing USAS-12 FO4 port, actually - along with a number of other ports I decided not to use. Like you were wondering, it's not up to standard, unfortunately. It's not necessarily the fault of the author of the port; it was done early on, I think, when the tools and knowledge for exporting art assets for FO4 weren't really there. It's also due to the original resource used for that port. I'm using the same one, and that's why I'm having to do all this work on it now. Like I've said before, the model and textures are actually really nice, it's just that they were made a long time ago and aren't suitable for a modern game engine. (Or even an old game engine with some modern bits haphazardly bolted on, as with FO4.) The textures are the main problem. Again, they're very well done, but they more or less hearken back to a time when a diffuse texture was all you needed. (Or all you could have, to probably be more accurate.) The diffuse has shadows and highlights baked into it, and the specular is not quite just a desaturated copy of the diffuse, but isn't too far off it. The normal map was obviously generated from the diffuse using something like Crazybump, so it's not accurate or that useful as a normal map. (To be fair I used to do that myself, as it's a lot less work than making high-poly models and baking proper normals, but that's a long time ago now.) Also all the textures in the resource were provided as jpg files; a lossy format. Oh, and there's no gloss map. So that's why I'm doing all this work now. It wouldn't be possible without the help of the original resource, though. :) Howdy Antistar, just wanted to chime in and say how awesome it is that you decided to include the m16 m203 setup which is so woefully unrepresented in modern fps. Keep up the good work^^Thanks - and I think Hitman would have rioted had I not included the M203 with the heat-shield handguard. ;) I was keen on getting it in there too though, so I guess everyone's happy. I was reffering to the inclusion of the heat shield first and foremost. I mean for such an iconic look its nowhere to be found even as a purely cosmetic option in today's military shooters.
