ClanRanald21
I am 60 years old, yes done arena, daggerfall, morrowind, oblivion! I did not like the look of Skyrim when it came out 11/2011. But due to a rush of blood recently, supported by medicine, I decided to buy Skyrim SE through steam. I feel I have made a horrible mistake, so the best place to come and ask for answers is with the best of the best on nexus forums. It took several days to download, when it finally did I was greeted with the message, "Failed to start, invalid platform". Is there a veteran of steam out there who could possibly tell me what I have done wrong, apart from wasting a lot of money. Best wishes. I have searched steams website for an answer, but I was just shined off with the usual corporate crap! thanks
L3s7ing
Skyrim SE requires an 64 bit operating system (and Windows 7/8/10). I know this problem mostly when trying to run games on a 32 bit os.Would help if you could post your system specs. ClanRanald21
Thanks, the horror of what I have done hit home shortly after posting this! This is possibly a geriatric IT issue in the fact, older people can not be bothered to read the small print! I am in negotiations with Steam to get some kind of understanding that I have become a silly old fool that thinks the world has stood still for the past 20 years! I need the 32 bit version that runs on Vista! Thank you for your reply!
Rabbit1251
I need the 32 bit version that runs on Vista! Sometimes adding another one or two vacuum tubes can pep up your machine a bit. Only 60 years old? I have you beat by 5 years, youngster!! Hang in there. We ain't "down and outers" yet!! The Rabbit
TheGreatFalro
If it's been less than two hours, and you bought it from Steam, you can refund it, no questions asked: http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refundsThe Legendary Edition (AKA Oldrim, Skyrim: Normal Edition, Skyrim + All Addons [on Steam]) is compatible with 32-bit computers and Vista. metaphorset
@TheGreatFalro - young people tend to have reading issues ;-) It took several days to download So no easy refunds, there.
L3s7ing
In some cases valve makes exceptions with refunding games, like when you have 0 hours played and you can confirm, that your pc isn't compatible with the game (I've had this once and they were pretty nice that time ^^). However for me it got pretty hard to get a competent supporter in the last years :-/Wish you good luck with that. And you should maybe think about an upgrade of your pc if you want to continue to play newer games (or at least upgrade your os).
RodelB
ClanRanald21 just a suggestion but perhaps it would be a good idea that you or somebody else upgrades your pc with a 64bit operating system? Since you are only 60 years old I assume that your current pc will not be the last one in your life and 64bit is likely to be the mainstream for the next decades. Windows 7 64bit would not be so far away from Vista regarding the look and feel and it is availabe at quite low prices i.e. at ebay. As far as I know at least the extended official support will also be continued until 2020. Good luck with your efforts and best wishes from me, 51 years old. It might be kind of expensive as you will probably need a new graphics card, maybe a new sound card and a larger power supply for them. At least I did when upgrading my 64 bit machine for Fallout 4. You might want to scope out prices, otherwise as Mr. RodelB says upgrading is a grand idea. The Rabbit
iXenite
@TheGreatFalro - young people tend to have reading issues ;-) It took several days to download So no easy refunds, there. You can return it if you have less than two hours of play time. Have you played two hours of a game that won't run on your system? If not - you should have been able to return it. You could have read the link they shared, instead you chose to be snarky. It also requires you to file for a refund within two weeks of the original purchase, so all of this faffing about has probably closed that avenue up. Valve is lenient though, and will still look into cases that fall out of what I've described. If you still want a refund, they probably will still give it to you.
