Video Card for Skyrim

Recommended Posts

There are other options such as liquidation auctions where you might be able to pick up a bargain, or look at a refurbished PC online.

As a first step though, I'd find a small local dealer and talk to them about a bundle deal. Explain money is tight and ask for the best possible price on his cheapest range. Most local dealers would rather make a little profit than none at all. Even the cheapest modern components will blow your current rig out of the water.

You're going to need: a motherboard - cpu, ram to fit that board and a graphics card, so with the cheapest stuff, say around $160 -$200

You would also need a case and a new power supply, maybe a new keyboard and/or mouse (depending on the motherboard). If you are using a usb mouse and/or a usb keyboard, you are good to go there. These newer video cards are power hungry and have connections on the back for additional power. I am in the process of getting parts for a system rebuild, since the motherboard on that one died. Since I wanted to use the existing DDR2 memory, I had to go with AMD. The trade off is that while AMD processors are cheaper than Intel's, the DDR2 is more expensive than DDR3.

You simply cannot go and buy a new video card and expect it to work. Those old Pentium D systems do not use PCI-e, which all newer video cards are.

You will also need a new OS. Windows Home Premim 64 bit, or Ultimate 64 bit. Definitely not Basic or Professional and certainly not 32 bit. Sooner or later, games will be made in 64 bit.

No, it's fine. I had a problem with a virus a while back which caused the controls for the game to be really bad. It has been fixed, and while the game is still laggy, it is playable.

Thank you all for the help, but I cannot afford anything expensive. I'll play the game as it is.

not Basic or Home i agree with

i disagree with Ultimate. its too expensive for nothing worth while. theres no reason not to get it, but its not worth the extra money imo

i deff recommend W7 Pro. the price is in the middle. it has a lot of features Home doesnt, and is going to be supported for a few years longer then home (idr the exact dates though)

Well, if you need the Media Center, then your choices are Premium or Ultimate. Ultimate includes everything in Premium and Professional
